they usually test fire ICBM's and Defense missiles from Point Mugu or Vandenberg. That pic is from a launch a couple of days ago. No big mistery.

Yep, all the way to the Marshall Islands. They test the missile guidance and delivery systems over that large distance. When I worked for the defense industry back in the '80's, I was treated to an MX missile launch at VAFB (I worked on the launch system) and it was awesome in every way.
That missile had multiple re-entry vehicles that selectively hit different targets in the Kwajalein Islands (see http://www.smdc.army.mil/RTS.html). The stories I could tell.... :icon_smile_wink:
