I have a slight noise coming from the back then I hit the gas pedal slightly in the 40 mph range.
Might be wheel bearings, but I want to check the pinion nut first.

Heard some rumors about not tightening the nut too hard on 489 cases.

what is the ft.lbs for that nut?

the number on my rearend is 2881489 btw.

Just 6T9 CHGR

Buuuuutttt....the 489 case uses a crush collar that can only be "crushed" once....tightening more will throw your preload off.

Disclaimer:

This only applies if the rear hasn't been converted with one of Raytech's solid spacer kits.....

The minimum torque on a 489 nut is 170 ft. lbs. but only if the running torque was measured before removing the nut. If no pre-measurements were taken before loosening the nut there is no way to know the correct torque.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.
