Ok awhile back I posted a pictrue of a hemi,  the rail on the block is xx29.

Now I just recently heard a FISH story of a Daytona here that was hit by a train in the 70's and is still in a gentlemans barn.  HE is a SOB if you will one day he will talk to you and another he may shoot you.

ANYONE HEAR OF THIS ONE,  Car would be in ND.

It possible it from a 69 500 or a 69 daytona .We would need the last six vins .69 charger 500s are lower and daytonas are higher. To establish were its from.I have seen the stamped block vins start from 9 for the year and B for the plant .And last 6 vin sequence.Dont recall seeing the whole vin from XX on.But who knows. Can you post a picture of the vin rail on the block

Do not have one but I am sure I could get one at some point.

It is almost certainly from a C500 if the VIN on the rail says XX29.  Early on in the '69 model year they were stamping the full VIN, and that's when the C500s were mostly built.  Someone else probably knows when that stopped exactly, but it seems to me it stopped in November or December of '68.

I'm fairly confident they had stopped puttin the first 5 digits of the VIN on the pan rail by the time the Daytonas rolled out.

That's my opinion, anyway...

That would look good sitting in my C500.....  I dont have an engine for it now..... Hmmmm :scratchchin:

Well I can say this, so far every 500 I have looked at has had the full VIN stamped on the engine. So I would say that they stopped stamping the entire VIN's on blocks sometime around January 1st of 1969. Because even the cars built in December of 1968 as far as 500's are concerned have full VIN's on them, or at least all of the ones I have seen. Not trying to go out on a limb and say 100% of them have it, but so far 100% of the ones I've looked at have.

So I would venture to say that since it is stamped XX29?????????, that it would be from a 500. For a few reasons. First of all with there being 100+ HEMI 500's made, and only 45 HEMI Daytona's being reportedly built. The odds would be in the favor of it being from a 500 not a Daytona.

i can go with that.  I just was wondering why such close proximity of the two.... Not that a hemi engine cound not travel.  But he bought the engine fairly locally..... Along with the train story I found it interesting.

I have heard a '69 Hemi 500 met its demise in Dodgeville, WI back in the early 80's when it was hit by a semi at the intersection of Hwy 18 and Hwy 23. Maybe it is that engine.

A good friend and co-worker had riden in the car several times and said the Hemi was nearly ripped out of the car when the front clip was hit. When he first told me about it he said it was different than the other '69 Charger's in town because it didn't have fold down headlights.  :o

I will ask him more details about it but, I think it was a blue automatic car. I am sure he will remember the owner's name...I do think he lived through the crash.

WOW GOOD LORD.  Well it could be a 500 as you know how stories go

69_500

So Blown70, is the picture you posted of the Engine your talking about? I mean is it up for sale? Or only to the person who now owns the car that matches the VIN? I know of several HEMI 500 owners who are looking for their correct motors.

that is the motor stamped XX29R, I did not memorize the rest.  I can find out I have some challenger parts to pick up.

Tom

69_500

Would love to know the rest of the VIN. It could go to a car that I know of, or that someone else knows of and might be possible to reunite it with the right car. That or it might be to a car that no one has ever seen before. I know of 2 69 HEMI engines that the only information I have on those 500's is the VIN from the engine block. never seen the cars, nor has anyone else I have talked to. Just know that they built that car due to their being and engine with that VIN.

The vin number for hemi is "J" in 69, could it be XS29R0? (1970 hemi charger rt)

Blown70

Sorry,

Yes it would be R.... no J.... I must have been looking at something else  :icon_smile_blackeye:

I know for sure it was xx29

69_500

Now I'm totally confused. If it was XX29 then it would have to be J not an R.

PocketThunder

Maybe it goes to the 70 HEMI Daytona  :shruggy:

Actually I screw up quite a bit. I was just trying to make a comment not trying to upset anyone. I guess sometimes in my search to know more about 500's and Daytona's I come accross as mean or something. I appologize. Was just trying to get information, and then be able to write it down making sure it is correct.
