Has anyone seen this Charger?

Hi guys,
I may be grabbing at straws here but I figured it was worth a try.
I am trying to locate my original 69 Charger R/T. I joined the Army in 1975 and left it with my brother (who has since been disowned LOL). He went and traded it to a used car dealer for a 340 duster.  :'(
the dealer was then located on Sunrise Highway, East Islip, NY (Long Island).

It was Dark Green with black vinyl top, black interior, 440 6 pack, four speed, Dana 60 rear.

I am hoping that MAYBE someone on here will know something or possible point me in the right direction to look for it.
I REALLY want my car back!!

I only have one picture of it, and not a good one I might say, as my ex emptied the house when she left.
I tried NY DMV and they tried to locate it but said the records were destroyed already due to being too old.

Thanks in advance!!

Someone traded a '69 Charger R/T with a 6 pack, 4 speed, and a Dana rear for a 340 Duster (no offense to Duster owners).  Now I've heard everything, folks.

Are you sure you don't have a copy of the VIN number anywhere?

u trying to get her back? its probably worth some bucko bucks now lol.....

GOTWING

Dont give up, i did not have my vin saved either and 23 years later i found my first car ( 73 charger ) and got it back!  it was a 318 S/E pale green model originally, i had known it was painted FJ5 and had a early 340 installed in it that made it a little easier i guess.

JB400

If you can't find his exact car, a nice tribute car could be a close 2nd.  Plenty of green/black R/T's that in which a 6 pack could be bolted onto. :popcrn:

Heli143

yep, I want her back. I have prepared myself for the cost of repatriation LOL
and to think I paid only $2400 when I got her in 1970.

Gotwing, happy to hear it worked out for you. Hope I have the same luck. A buddy told me there is a site where you can reconstruct a VIN number, but I would imagine there would be some info missing if one doesnt have the date and location of build, etc.

I have also prepared myself, as Stroker said, for a tribute car. Actually found a white 69 parked behind an abandoned house down the street. When my son moved near us, we went there with the intention of getting it somehow but it was gone.

Wicked72

i would contact your dmv and see if its still in your records of last ownership. you could also check insurance records. one last thing i would do is contact the state police and get their number to the department that handles vehicle theft and look ups, they might the info your looking for. its been a long long time but its worth a try to get that vin. ill contact one of the state police i worked with to get my car checked out since i dont have a title and see what he says.

Hi wicked72,
without the VIN the DMV couldn't trace it.
They tried searching registrations under my name but the records are too old and have been destroyed.
I cannot remember what insurance I had back then.

Thanks for trying to help me out with the SP.

I have one last resort to get the VIN.
My brother's ex may have some paperwork from back then so I will check with her IF she's nice enough to even try. ::)

Wicked72

I have yet to hear back for my buddy from MSP. what im hoping is he could use your full name and last address you owned the car at. he currently running an investigation from what i hear so it may take some time to see what he says. He does a completely different search then what the dmv has access to and normal state police, the division he runs is specific to autos and he has access to info from everywhere. if its ok with you pm me your full name and last address it was at and ill email it to him.

Wow, what an awesome act of kindness!!  Thank you bud, many times over!!

Sent you my info via PM.

Bumping this to the top in case there are new folks on here who have not seen this older post. Still hoping someone will see this post that knows something  :'(

Still looking for my Charger (remind me to kick my brother's butt for getting rid of it while I was in Army basic training LOL)

Will be a fun hunt for some people. Better try to find the VIN first some how, insurance co., bank lone, brother's X.
Six Packs are cool.
Any chance someone can enlarge that photo an pick up the license plate? just another clue.
Any chance the car has traction bars on?
Nice car, nice burn out.

Without that VIN its a nearly impossible task.

Y1CHARGER

With out the VIN how would you know it is your old car 40yrs later?  They only made 3,605 4spds.  You might as well just look for what you had, 69 RT with the same color combo, interior configuration and a 4spd.

You have better odds finding a Virgin in a Whore House, than finding the same car, without the VIN.  Good luck to you Sir.

Heli143

thanks for the well wishes and crossed fingers ;D

dual fours, I have tried all that including the ex, but nothing  :brickwall:
As for the LP, I was able to blow it up and sent it to the NY DMV. They said those records are gone...
Yes, it had the bolt on traction bars. the burnout in the pic was the second one as you can see in the pic. Funny thing is the Police precint was right across the street, but they all knew my mom from the grocery store where she sold puerto rican food and they loved her cooking LOL... so no response... but they knew ...

Y1CHARGER, you're probably right, but there is always that chance that it ended up sitting in someone's yard for a while in original condition. My chances are almost like trying to hit the lottery but I have to try. I already found one that is identical, but he's not giving it up and it wasn't mine.

6spd68, I actually found a virgin in a whorehouse while living in Germany... or she fooled me LOL

thanks again guys, I may eventually give up but right now it's all I think about. Lots of memories in that car.

ncmrer

Without VIN it's nearly impossible, but hope you can find it. May be Dodge can help somehow? In 2010 GM helped find an old Chevrolet and gave it to the owner. This was done at the LA Auto Show.

A6USMC

I did a little calling around and looking on the internet, and here is what I found, the dealership that took over in 2012 is Atlantic Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, Ram. The former dealership was Herbee Dodge. The woman I spoke to said all the records are in storage. I asked if they would help you, and she thought so, and said give a call and try speaking with one of the salesmen. Who knows, if you don't find any info on the car, you may find a lead. their # is 855-248-2025  Good Luck,,Brian

Heli143

Thank you Brian!!!!!!!

It's a shot!  sometimes those tend to land right on target.

I will call today.

Heli143

Well, the last lead didn't work out, but they tried to help me. Again, first question is do I have the VIN...

I am giving it my last attempt by having my sister talk to my EX-sister-in-law, who is the last person to have been in possession of any documents relating to the car.

If that doesn't work out, I will have to find and clone a Charger to look like mine.

thanks again for all the tips and hints on trying to find it.

Heli143

Hi guys,
been a while since I've been on here but I haven't stopped looking... I just can't let go!  :rotz:

a bump to the top just incase someone new might see this and a light bulb goes off in their head... but then again maybe I'm just dreaming.

Talked to my son. He just retired from the Air Force. I guess he wanted to make me feel a little better and built me a 1/18 scale metal 69 Charger that is identical to the my real one.  :'(
I guess he and I will start looking for a 69 body that we can build a tribute car with...

Homerr

Might end up being better to build it to memory than reality.

It could be a roach now, or worse - tin cans.   :pity:

Plus you get to make new memories.

Heli143

Hey Homerr, you might be right!

I will look for a while longer and eventually will have to give up and build a tribute car.
Like you said... new memories  :icon_smile_big:

Heli143

Hi guys,
Want to wish you all a Happy and Great New Year!!

I want to post one more piece of info that might strike a nerve with someone.
I thought if I provided the info on the dealer someone may have a lead for me.

I bought the car from O'Donnell Motors on Rt 111, Central islip, NY and and his full name was Tom O'Donnell.
He eventually moved his dealership to Sunrise Highway, Bayshore, across from the old Bayshore High School.
It's long gone now.

Thanks again for all the well wishes.
I retired last week finally and look forward to a new life.

troy.70R/T

Do you remember what insurance company you had when you owned the car? If so Maybe they could find your old account and they would have the VIN for insurance purposes. Find someone to blow that pic up and get the plate # that might help the DMV or insurance. Did you ever get a ticket driving that car? the police might have those records still and the title number or the insurance company name if you cant remember. Good luck  :2thumbs:

I didnt think the six pack was available on a charger until 1970 :scratchchin:

Must of got added later on? LEON.

Heli143

HI Troy,
I've been wracking my brain trying to think of the insurance company I had back then 🤔
As for the plate, I zoomed in and sent a request to the DMV for info.  They said they destroy their records after 30 years so I'm too late there 😔
As for tickets, I got a lot of tickets with that car LOL. I looked up SCPD last night and will be contacting them today.
Thanks for all your help, it's greatly appreciated!

Charger01: good catch on the six pak, you are absolutely right! I added it when I rebuilt the motor, so Hemi-Hampton was right on the nose. Mark Worman from Graveyard Cars apparently visits this forum and caught that also.  He contacted me and referred me to a friend of his who could help, BUT I need the VIN...

Good news is a member contacted me and he bought a car kind of matching my description on Long Island and has offered to give me the VIN. So I will trace the VIN and see what happens... 🙏

I will update as soon as I have more info.
Thank you all for the help and info!!

That was in December last year .  :icon_smile_angry:

Heli143

Hi John,
sorry for the slow response.
I retired December 31 and since then had to get daily medical treatments which finished last week.
I found your post asking how to replace the fender tag on another forum.

I saw the picture of your Charger and saw it is red. However, have you looked under the rug or dash to see if the car was a different color previously? Mine was green when I bought it new.
I ran the VIN you sent me but it did not provide the info I was looking for.
here is a breakdown of the VIN you sent me, XS29L9B278889:
X - Charger
S - Special   X and S together denote an R/T
29 - Two door sports hardtop
L - 440 HP engine with 4 BBL
9 - 1969
B - Assembled at Hamtrack, MI
278889 - sequence number

I would like to recommend you contact Mark Worman from the TV show Graveyard Cars and ask him about the fender tag. He had emailed me and offered to help a while back. He knows everything about Mopars.
I remember seeing him explain on the show that there are serial numbers printed on many parts or different areas of the cars which provide a lot of info about the car.

I hope this helps you but unless you can find some green paint somewhere in the car there isnt a chance it's my old car.
thank you for your help so far.
I have a couple more places to check into my actual VIN number and will keep you updated.

paironines

I contacted Allstate for the VIN on my first Charger and they said there was no way to look it up as its not a current policy so just thought I'd share that.

Well, I guess I will dedicate my time to finding a 69 RT I can afford to buy so that I can build a tribute car.
Deep down inside I still hope I find out what happened to my car, even if I can't buy it back.

I found a similar car in same colors but the owner will not sell. He wants to give it to his grandson and hopefully his grandson will do the car justice.

Thanks to all those who tried to help me, it was greatly appreciated.

jefferson

Sorry, i know its not of much help to finding your beauty 69 mate, but ive come across, both in person and on australian car sales websites a few  (maybe 2 or 3 not many) dark green 69 RTs that looked like yours, no idea though if they were 6 pack or stock 440 etc. A few months back i pulled up at the lights actually next to a 69 dark olive green RT charger. Absolutely gorgeous, owner was an elder gentleman from what i could make out, was about 9pm at night.
too bad i wasnt in my 68 charger. THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN WICKED.
