Just a heads up. "Disco-Tona" is in the current issue of MCG...finally got it. And it appears that Doug's old "Boat-Tona" will make an appearance in the next issue as well.

I better hurry up and finish the last issue.  Looking forward to seeing the article(s).

Good stuff, Jimbo!  Glad to hear a couple more of your rides are getting some well-deserved press.  Post the articles when you can.

I got my copy a couple of weeks ago. The dog team must have had to take a rest before heading up north.
I can't wait to read about Boat-tona next month.

I was surprised nobody on here had mentioned it, such a cool car that needs to be seen in person.

Did Scrimales customize the daytona         http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,63416.0.html

Auctions description
1969 Dodge Charger Daytona - Hemi orange - 16,721 original miles, 440 automatic council 410 dana - special ordered. This car was found from the original owner who owned it for 36 years since new. He drove it up until 1972 and was registered until 1979 but was not driven after 1972. The car seems to be 100% original the way it came down the assembly line, other then the customized paint job. The original owner had the nose and fender scoops molded to the fenders. This would not take much to put back to original. Also, he changed the intake and exhaust system. It still has the original rare scissors jack and crank handle. The original rims were changed back in 1971 and has a custom wheels from that err. Upon delivery to the original owner he had a dealer installed AM 8-track player (still works great!) Also, added adjustable air shocks - this is the knob located just under the dash. I have checked the engine and talked to the original owner he claims this is the original motor - I believe this is a replacement warrenty block when the car was new. The date casting on the motor is Jan. 16, 1969. This car has disc brakes and does run - we did fire it. Have not attempted to clean fuel system. We have been under this car, inside and out and cannot find any rot anywhere. This is a true time capsule find. This does have a very cool, period dated paint job - this has a red metalflake paint job with pearl white stripes and the rear end has been painted gold with candy apple red fogged into it from the front. We do have the original window sticker and will list a picture shortly. Also, the original seats were changed in 1970, front and rear seats were put into storage and are in excellent condition. Also, he changed the center council to a 1966 Dodge Charger council. He also changed the mirrors to 1970 Charger style. Owner wanted high back buckets and racing mirrors - which were not available until 1970. This comes with the original intake - he took it off when the car was new - unfortunately, he did not save the exhaust manifolds or the original rims - but both items are readily available. There are not many of these left or available XX29L9B356532

They were the flippers - The original custom paint was done by William Sternes. The only reason I know this is because there is a little metal plaque on the dash trim that says......................"Custom Paint by William Sternes":

I googled the name - nothing turned up.

Looks like Boat in the bottom right hand corner of the upcoming issue....

Doug, It was "creative" - but not from Creative.
They had put those locking hood pins on and did that mess.
I put the proper ones on.

Brent; welcome to the Aero Car forum.  Glad the Disco Daytona made it to a good home.  Looks like we will have at least 2 wild looking wing cars at our show in June!

(Brent is a great guy.  He and I are members of the Chicagoland Mopar Connection. Our chapter's show is Mopars at the Park, June 28 in Fox Lake IL - just south of the Cheddar Curtain).

Dave K: you and Scott S can bring your red 'Tonas and make the "wing car" class a bit more challenging: otherwise I will be sure to get 3rd place after Brent's #1 'Tona and #2 'Bird - lol!

Doug S: You aren't that too far away, so we should talk offline about you bringing something fun.

Take care all!

Jim, did you find out if they (Custom Paint Specialists - Des Moines, IA) did Disco-Tona?  Or is this quote for another car?

So is it called Disco-Tona or Disco Daytona?

Perhaps these are the correct definitions:
Disco-Tona: Jim's old car
Disco Daytona: any Daytona sporting a "disco" 1970's look.

I want to be sure I get it right!  Thanks.

Hi Dave. I'm still here. Been pairing down on the cars a bit.....they were taking over - Lol.
Just been busy with work, life etc. Trying to get Doc Tona finished....it's in resto limbo.

No - I never did check out if that's who painted the car.
Ok - about the names...
Disco -Tona - the car in this thread and in the first magazine story.
Boat - Tona - the car in the second magazine story. I bought this car from Doug S (Aero426). It sported a custom paint job that matched one of the original owners boats. It's also the snow covered one in my avatar....this was from a photo Doug sent me.
Doc - Tona. No crazy paint job. A doctor bought it new, I bought it from him. It's an SE and the first car on the shipping list - used at auto shows before the rest starting shipping.
I've had three other Daytona's before these as well.

Ghoste

Always wondered about the avatar. lol
