A buzzing/whirring type sound has developed in my alternator......at least I think it is coming from there.....sounds like it.

Do you think that this is a problem?  Normal?

It was quieter last fall when I put her down for the winter.  The car was started a few times over the winter, and I noticed increased sound the last two times it was running.

Could be alt bearing. If when you take the belt off, does it spin freely? If it ginds or binds up at all ... bearing.
The front one is the one usually goes but the rear if it is a newer style is 3837997.
Front 3656444 (again if newer style). Either way, faily common bearing should be replacable.

I'll give it a look.

Alt is new...only has a couple thous miles on it.   :scratchchin:

Sadly that is not uncommon, I've had two reman alternators from different sources go bad after a couple of hundred miles  :shruggy:
they made a loud whining noise when the engine was revved up.
