Is it possible to have too fast of an advance curve? If so, what happens if the advance curve is too fast?

It will fire too far ahead of peak compression and power falls way off.  You can also cause engine damage such as broken ring lands.

The biggest risk with too quick of a timing curve is detonation. As long as the engine will tolerate the additional timing there's no reason not to advance it. My old 446 ran a locked out distributor with 35* of timing and ran great, started fine (hot) and never detonated. That's not to say all distributors should be locked out because it is combination specific.

A good rule of thumb is to have the total timing all in by 2000-2500 for best results. With iron heads this is often difficult so you have to slow the mechanical progression in order to keep detonation at bay.

Hi John,

Yes, the std spring package that comes installed in the RTR will be fine for your combination.  :2thumbs:
