Has anyone sewn new elastic material onto the belt to restore that portion for snapping them into the stored position?  I recall reading something on here once but can't recall the thread.

Some old BVD's should do the trick. :D

yes replaced mine & the snap/press stud thingy , need a strong needle when sweing the elastic on ,  the end / edge of the belt is its doubled over  from memory &   the elastic is sort of in the middle ,  still got the scars on thumb trying to press the needle through  ;)

Is the elastic stuff readily available then?

tan top

yes !! its called braided elastic  , can buy it in various widths & colors ,   when I done mine had no idea where to get , before internet ! went into a fabric / craft type shop !   never  knew what to ask for   :P   so just said the elastic stretchable thingy on a baseball cap ,  & there it was !! rolls of the stuff  :o    seen it in places like hobby craft type shops since then & on internet !! once you know its called braided elastic can find it easy , need to look at it in real life really before buying because some types are more elastic than others & different elastic appearance  .

I had some done as well (lucky my mom can sew real good!).

Width is about 3/4" IIRC? Found a near exact replacement at the local fabric store as well. Same with the snaps. :yesnod:
