I have had these gaskets laying around for awhile, how thick are these? Mine is like 3/4 inch thick and it seems like I will need to compress it a lot to get nuts on the studs?

the white foam ones ?  are you sure there are not two sets stuck together ( factory cutting mistake )  only that seems really think from memory , think about 3/8 "  ,  have you got a picture  ,

maybe two  together cutting mistake

:scratchchin:    when they are bolted in , the gasket compresses a hell of a lot , may be try compressing them first a bit , lay them under a flat piece of wood with a weight on top & or compressing them buy hand / fingers , first  :shruggy:  think they will be still ok to use , have you tried fitting the gasket then lamp & pressing it hard just to get one nut started , at either end  , then fit one nut as you go tightening them down a little as you go , there is a lot of clamping force there ,  but don't force it the studs brake easy  :popcrn:

I may try compressing them first...

Compressing did not work, I ended up cutting them in half and that seems fine.

Thanks for the tips!
