how rusty are the floors and quarters?

I'd like to add to the question.   Does the fact that it's a C500 make anymore difference today than it did say 10-15 years ago?

These seem to have been hiding their whole lives. :'(  Something the Daytona could never do. ::)

69_500

Personal opinion is that it would bring between $17-25k.
Good things it has going is the color, and the fact it is an A/C car.

Downsides is non numbers engine, not sure on trans. Does the car have fender tag? Odds are it does not have the right sheet. Rust is probably a bigger issue than it appears if it's been sitting outside under a tarp for that long.

Car would need a complete restoration, meaning a ball park figure on that would be between $45-75k. Figure once it was all done your looking at a $75-80k car tops being that it's not numbers matching.

As much as I love 500's, there is really no hope in doing OE style restorations on these cars unless they are Hemi cars, or maybe the SE cars that also have A/C. Otherwise your kind of fighting a losing battle.

FWIW, my perspective is close here.  A/C has value to a potential buy I think but on rarity not increased value (maybe).  If blue car I think it has more value than red ...... (to me).  Is it a red car repainted blue or is primer showing through on a b5?  In my general vague numbers half the 500s were either red or green.... blue would be nice on a 500 imo.

fc7_plumcrazy

Hi,

if it is possible I would like to get more information about the B5 blue 500, too

Yes, definitely has to be because you love them.  If I were in aposition to take it on and were priced at 17, I'd do it.  I'd regret it if I ever looked ta the bills but I would try to make it nice again.  (non numbers make for great drivers)

Dave is there any way I could get the fender tag info on this car? I know we talked about this car several times but I do not have it in my spread sheet

I hate to say it, but its only real value is as a clone of a Daytona.    Otherwise, its a $20,000 something car or maybe less depending on condition.   I'd take any cash offer above $20K and let the next guy sink more money into than its worth.

Why? What makes an original 500 more valuable if it's used to create a Daytona clone than if it stays a 500. I guess I did not realize clone donor cars were worth more than original 500"s. Why not create the clone out of an original 318 car per say. Why lose a 500. The clone is not worth any more to me at least because it was once a Charger 500. It won't be a 500 once you clone it and that added value over the 318 car is lost. 500's are rare & fewer made than Daytona's. Maybe not as sought after but still very desireable. You can throw hypothetical restoration costs at these cars and nobody will ever restore another one. I heard that same scenario back in the 1980's and the people that passed on those cars wish they had them now.  :Twocents:

Unless you do the labor yourself for pennies on the hour, every car is a losing investment when you factor in purchase price + restoration costs.

Destroying a real 69 500 to restore it into a fake Daytona? That's even dumbererer than losing your shorts on a normal restoration. You sink all the costs into making the conversion and all you have in front of you is a bastard car worth (at most) the same money as a restored 500.

I do agree $20k plus is a good bottom line sell #. With stubborn effort and holding out for the right buyer, maybe up to $25k.

the recent allen & troy trade would suggest even a project c500 is worth as much as a finished clone.

when you use "value" as the measuring stick, it's all about the VIN

Agreed.

Worth is also left to the individuals, that black cloned Daytona is very nice for sure, sitting side by side for the same dollar I would rather have that Y2 500 (likely because the rework of the .... as I real black RTSE from Daytona would cost to much for me).     :yesnod: :Twocents:

I prefer the 500 to the Daytona anyway so cloning it certainly wouldn't raise its value in my eyes.

Agreed. If my former Y2 C500 looked like my current black clone, I wouldn't have a "current" clone.. I would have a Y2 C500. Value is in the eye of the beholder. There are different people with different desires and those very same people have desires that even change with age. I personally didn't want to tackle the project to the level I have for me. Ya'll know me, I wouldn't have been satisfied with a "quickie" restoration. It is pretty much all or nothing. Allen's/Larry's former Daytona is a REAL nice car. Is it perfect? no......... It was never meant to be. But, it has one hell of a base to start with and the paint/body are real nice....... Interior is real nice........ Drivetrain has detailing issues, but nothing I can't fix. I am a purist persay and yes, a XX29 car is worth more than a XS or XP car. But, the comparison isn't apple to apple.....

This B5 C500 seems to be an excellent candidate for a restoration, especially for a Southern owner if the a/c is fixed. It could provide year-round enjoyment. I hope someone gets it and makes it look just as good as Allen V's B5 4speed C500..... Now, that's a beaut....  :2thumbs:
