68 Chargers at Powercruise - Perth, Oz

We have an annual event here called Powercruise where you can basically spend 3 days cruising/burning around a racetrack (Barbagallo Raceway in Perth) and competing in drag races, drifting etc.

I entered my '68 this year and in an awesome surprise there was actually another '68 competing as well (we were the only US Mopars and there were only about 5 Chryslers all up).

First, some pics:

This is Turn 1 after the main straight:

The other '68, immaculate and running a Hemi!

Love this pic, really picks up that superior Charger styling:

The 'Off-street Drags' - 1/8 mile with no burnout, no lights, just a guy dropping his arm and first past the line. Lots of far quicker cars there but I got lucky with the matchups I won 2 from 2:

A few watermarked images I printscreened LOL!

The other '68 had some traction issues...

My mate's '63 Dodge Phoenix, runs a 360/727 and a 12.7 quarter mile:

Both of us having a chat before one of the cruise sessions amongst a sea of plastic shit:

Speaking of which, spot the odd one out!!

A big block Aussie Charger that was competing, very nice car:

Now, VIDEOS!

Some off-street drag footage from both on-board and beside the track, as you can see there was zero traction so had to come out of the hole very lightly:

On-board highlights from the track sessions, the big girl was quite a handful on the stock suspension but lots of sideways stuff in there!

I put together all the clips of spins and stacks from the weekend, actually turned out pretty entertaining! At least watch for the first Camaro crash, that was a bit scary, apparently he grabbed first instead of third on the downchange:

Something really sexy about a second gen going toe to toe with "modern" cars.   :2thumbs:

Nice pics. You guys have an interesting mix of vehicles there.

I love seeing domestic Australian cars, mixed in with JDM imports and random American cars thrown in.

In the U.S. you don't get to see that much diversity at most events. (Excluding track day events, maybe.) Each group sort of does their own thing and doesn't mingle with others. Which gets very boring after a while. I haven't been to a mopar only show since 2003. Im pretty sure I haven't missed anything since.

I also like that you guys drive the wheels off your cars. Most American classic car enthusiasts are content to park them at shows for a weekend, sit behind them in a folding chair and argue over correct hose clamps and who really deserved the stupid cheap plastic trophy. :shruggy:

Nice thread, man. Good job!

Cheers all, yeah not a big fan of static shows, I like the fact there are so many events here for you to put your car through its paces and get it out of your system!

Definitely get a broad range of vehicles, I do get sick of seeing too much of the modern stuff but always a few classic guys out there to make it a spectacle.

You did well to keep a hold of it.
I'd be way too paranoid that someone was gonna run into me. Looked like there were a few clowns out there.
:2thumbs: Great day out.

BTW, There was a '68 on the track at the Sydney Powercruise earlier on in the year. Not sure how hard he was pushing it though.

Love the steelies what rim size and tire size u running?

Laxy

They are 15 inch cop steelies and just 245/60R15 Mastercraft Avenger GTs all round. Good tyre, I could go wider but gets expensive smoking off fat tyres so these are a great compromise!

Just found this great sequence of photos, I watched this happen and it was a heart stopping moment but luckily it pulled up in time! The sand did its job.

Also this neat Aussie VH Charger was there, it's a show car though so barely hit the track and just cruised around slowly:
