Had some time today and modified an auto console top into a 4 speed one. If anyone wants to try, here's some picures.
Thanks to 694spdrt for his measurements and tips! http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,6221.0.html

Here's the 1st cut...kind of a sizable chunk

Next shot is the filler. I used some scrap 1/10 inch thick 2026 aluminium. I tried to trim it close so it would be a "press fit" so as to not rely on the adhesive for all its strengh

AKcharger

Here is the filler installed, the other shot is of the filler piece with a slight bend in it to match the console bend

AKcharger

Here you can see the top before the finish plates go on.
- chrome trim at front and back of hole is made from shifter lever area (you can see it hacked up in the photo)
- You'll need to fill in the finish plate, that was a little bit of work, have to get it smooth

AKcharger

Here it is all done

AKcharger

- Total time about 6 hours on and off while watching the history channel
- Used about 8 dremel cutting disks
- JB weld/semi gloss paint
- scrap aluminium
Now all I need is a transmission, shifter, linkage, clutch, bellhousing........

Sorry bull, I'd say it's impossible to make a 68 one and have it not look cheesy, just too much hacking...

I still have the mount studs for the indicator, when I get the boot I'll JB weld them to the the underside of the plate in the proper position and then bolt it into place :)
