Agreed 100% I'm loving "almost" every minute of it! Thanks guys

Pat1973charger

Hey everyone, been a minute. No I haven't sold or given up on the car. Life has been busy and other projects have taken the forefront. Anyway I spent last winter/ spring insulating, vapour barrier and sheeting my garage and installing a heat pump. Now it's nice and warm in there to work in winter. I have started back at the car and have gotten the rockers and rear rails all levelled and squared and Locked into position. Rockers and prepped for welding etc. I'm in the process of fitting the rear crossmember and am just curious if anyone has run into this issue. The tabs onthe frame rails that weld to the top of the crossmember have a gap between them. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks guys

Pat1973charger

Figured out my issue today when I got to the shop. There is a semi-circle cut into the outer tab on the rear frame rail, onthe passenger side the semi-circle was cut too low in the flange and when the stamped hole that is meant to line up with the semi-circle was stopping the cross rail from coming up to meet the top of the frame rail. Here's a pic of what I mean. A little die grinder work on that semi-circle will take car of it. I will stop saying semi circle now
lol

I hope so to Eldon. I may come this year if I can get the time. Obviously not with the car lol.

Side note, my father-in-law has been helping your old buddy Dwayne restore his 70 challenger.

Some progress. Torsion crossmember burned into the rockers. Got the rockers all welded together minus a few plug welds. Front floor braces are welded in as well. Had to take apart my new front leaf spring mounts as they were all jacked up. Goodmark I bought 8 years ago (they are junk). Anyway I got them fixed up now and burned in permanent. Also got the front floor all prepped and ready To burn in as well. Rear crossmember is all ready to burn in as well as rear leaf mounts. Small progress but progress at least.

What was wrong with goodmark parts?

68 charger freak

With all the amd back orders, I also have had to resort to useing goodmark parts as well. Almost all of the goodmark parts need substantial modifications to make them fit correctly. The amd stuff isn't  perfect but the parts seem to fit way better.

What I've found is mostly small issues but big one was the leafspring forward mounts are not made correctly. As I'm sure you know they are a 3 piece bracket. I had to separate the 3 pieces, mount in yhe rear most one and then re bend and tweak the other pieces to fit. If it was left together it would throw everything off too bad you couldn't get it installed. Also the spot welds holding all the pieces together were maybe 1/8th". Very chincy. The left inner rocker was too long, looks as though they had a stamping for the right and mirrored it for the left. I had to section the left inner to fix this issue. I did have a torsion crossmember way back from them. It was total junk too, I opted for a good used one. Also it seems like the trunk floor and rear seat pan flanges where the wheel houses weld aren't nearly as wide as the original. No experience with AMD on those  so I don't know if they are better or not.

Thanks Tantop. Had a bit of a hiatus on it but back at it now full swing.

Pat1973charger

Got the rear crossmember and leaf hangers welded on min. Also the rear seat pan and trunk floor test fit. Everything is looking and measuring good so I marked out the rails from the underside to prep the floors for drilling.

Pat1973charger

Not a huge update but I did manage to get the front floor and rear seat pan burned in. Trunk floor is fitted so next I will mock in the rear door jamb and 1/4 window supports and then fit the 1/4s, deck filler tail panel etc to make sure everything is looking good.

Makes my back soar just looking at how long you had to stay bent over to do all that :)

Looks good keep at it

Test fit number one of what I'm sure will be many. So far not looking to shabby all things considered. Also for the step wells in and replaced my rear lower window channel. I had one made since I know a good metal guy and it was over $300 by the time it landed here in Canada.

Also I do plan to clean up and seal the surface rust on the inner roof structure before welding the 1/4s home.

Good to see you're still at it Pat! Awesome build!
