MECUM AUCTIONS HOUSTON APRIL 9-11 HAS ANOTHER HEMI DAYTONA AUCTION!!

Here is a list of the 8 Hemi Superbirds that show up in the final short run of VINs:

VIN      SON
181254   J97205
181255
181256   J97207
181257   J97208
181258   J97209
181259
181260
181261

254 is the car currently listed on Mecum
256 is Superbird Bob's car
257 is the Mr. 5 and 50 car - a car not included in the NASCAR list presumably because it couldn't be counted as a car that was available for sale to the public.
258 was sold to Chrysler and consigned to a regional manager.

I would be very interested to find out if any more of this run of cars were initially used inside Chrysler.
Also, note the fairly low J numbers (low 200s) and the very late production of the cars - all mid December.  This kind of evidence helps me to believe that the configuration (engine/trans/color/etc.) of at least some of the cars was planned out long before they were built.

QUESTION: Do all the 1970 Hemi cars have reference to "Special Headers" on the window sticker.

the "special header" is in reference to the header of the window sticker, it appears anytime the "SHIP TO:" & "SOLD TO:" are NOT the same. As is the case on most if not all "Company Cars".

:scratchchin: how'd the 'Bird comment end up in the Daytona thread?

Arnie Cunningham

Interesting, I wouldn't have guessed that header referred to the paperwork.  Anyone recognize the people listed on the window sticker?  Anyone know what the April date is in reference to?

Saturday night I went to the biggest local Sat. Night cruise spot in Houston with the Daytona. I can't remember how many people asked me if this was the Hemi Daytona that was going to be at Mecum here in Houston this coming weekend...

As far as I know all 8 cars were pretty similar and very basic.  The bucket seat option is about the only major thing on my car.  Here are some pictures of my build sheet and breakdown of the fender tag.  Also sometime ago someone sent me the window sticker for car 181258 also included.  I have talked to Doug and that car is not in the Daytona - Superbird Club's list of registered cars.

SBBob, whats with the N96 Fresh Air Package?  That wasn't available on a Superbird, was it?

I won't be wronged, I wont be Insulted and I wont be laid a hand on. I don't do these things to others, and I require the same from them.

Redbird

I think this is a particularly interesting "run" of Superbirds too. If more paperwork for these shows up it would shed some more light. Given what we have seen, it would not be surprising to me if the Sox & Martin Superbird was one of this "run" of cars.

I went to Jennings shop in the late 1970's and saw the "5 & 50" car there. Most importantly for me, I believed and continue to believe, that it is a very significant car in the linage of Superbirds.

I never believed for a moment the legend that it was from a NASCAR line of cars. It always seemed to me that it was modified by a racer team as soon as it left the factory. Chrysler and Porsche seemed to be more upfront and honest than some other manufacturers, Mercury and Abarth come to mind here, in regard to actually building the cars they claimed.

I am more of the opinion that the "5 & 50" omission on the list is likely a "secretary's" typo, rather than a specific omission of not being for sale to the public. Conspiracy theories aside, it was just another assembly line car. Maybe destined for some type of corporate delivery as might be the other cars in the "run."

The blue Hemi Superbird sold for $ 480,000.00. Sure looked good up and personal. The Daytona look good too.

damn I missed it  :slap:  what the Daytona sell for  ?

I didn't watch it cross the block. I wasn't able to get as close to the Daytona as I did to the Superbird.
On a side note: I was kinda disappointed, didn't see one 3rd gen Charger there.

no, the drug deal auction Bird last year brought more money

hemi68charger

Here was my day over there... This was my first major auction and it was pretty cool actually....

The Superbird was really nice as well as the Daytona. Funny, a lot of my friends thought it was my Daytona on the block....... Nope, not mine.......

The Daytona had a few obviously wrong things to it to the Mopar-smart... The hood lanyards were wrong, no wheel lip moulding and the buytel ribbon along the wind deflectors on the front windshield. I would think if someone was wishing to fetch Tim-Daytona-sort-of-money those things should have been correct. Wasn't able to really look at either hard for they were behind stanchions when not in line for the block..

Also ran into Rutledge.... Funny thing Danny, he remembered me/us at the burger joint there at Indy during the Brickyard 400...
