...also find he has the chassis of another race Daytona also! :2thumbs:

The odd part is that in both cases, I wasn't looking for a 'special' car. (certainly never dreamt I'd have one)

Race was red flagged for rain on Sept.19th finished on Sept.25th. The Daytona originally had a Aluminum front spoiler. but thanks to a Over jealous Jackman he thru the jack before Gary was stopped and damaged the front spoiler and Gary ran over the jack. that is how the car appeared in one race but photos show two different front spoilers. Now I believe it happened in practice , being red flagged they shouldn't have been allowed to change it.  One other humorous note is every time Gary came it to pit when he left the crew was sweeping Dirt clogs still falling out of the car in the pit stall from being a dirt track car originally.

Too bad the Daytona didn't run that #17 livery . Those two paint schemes and number fonts look a whole lot better than the plain #6. I especially like the odd arrangement of the 70 front end with the Daytona back glass.

as I said the race was red flagged for rain on Sept. 19 and finished on the 25th which would've been the following Friday. chances are people were at work or couldn't go back to watch the race.

Steve, Harry always had good looking cars. Art Dexter was his brush guy.  This wasn't the first car he owned to have history. his 57' chevy was Marshal Teague's old 55' Chevy.   Beofre purchasing the Daytona from Bay Harry had built a Ford. but it was sold when the Wing came available.

Like I said Art Dexter's brush work. He made some beautiful race cars. All Sal Tovells's were done by him. Art is a great guy and has a ton of funny stories.

Like I said Art Dexter's brush work. He made some beautiful race cars. All Sal Tovells's were done by him. Art is a great guy and has a ton of funny stories.
I really like the Blue car the best. It has the signature Dexter pint striping. That's a nice old school touch.

I think the woman in the picture is Joyce Cochran. She was a Hurstette at the time. She was also a former Playmate-see the logo, and also a former Miss Indiana.

Big hair on that head, how does one get that to stay?

Keen observation. All other aspects of the car right to left have the right side items further back as you would expect from this angle. The fender scoops for example. The right side wing upright seems quite a bit ahead of the left.  Look at the rear rim of the deck lid by comparison and the angle of the rear window. Both follow perspective lines that would indicate the right side upright should either not be visible at all or the trailing edge should show behind the left side upright. :Twocents: You can also see the right side of the rear bumper indicating the perspective lines are very close to the same as the fender scoops.

And same car back at Nichels. I'm assuming this is when Joe said he dropped it off to be made into a wingcar. but on his return car was still sitting there and a new chassis was all ready for him Painted and everything.  Plus he manage to talk Ray Nichels out of an extra hemi that was for Don White. Joe wanted it because it was  block and heads painted yellow.



BTW the time frame fits when Joe got his new Daytona and Bay Darnell getting a Charger.

I thought Darnell got the orange Charger after totaling and burning out the Coronet at Milwaukee at the end of the 1970 season.

Believe Joe said he got his Daytona for the World 600 in May and Darnell crashed out the Cornet at Sept. race. in 71' season 1st race has listed Bay driving a Dodge Charger. and there is maroon color under the red on the Darnell  / Bettenhausen car not many I can find that were ever that color other than Frasson's.

They appear to be only used to store a body up, out of the way.  Well, lets hope so.   I agree with you!   :o

I suppose it allowed better access to the underbody compared to an in ground hoist.

Not sure if they used two in ground lifts at each end of the car to get them up and down.   Or some kind of a forklift from the side.

The newer pic shows a car on tall stands away from any hoists, so I'd say forklift for that one. Probably, whatever was handy...

I still don't see any safe reason to use those things.    You can't safely store any more cars or stuff under it.    You can't safely work on the car up there.

Not when he was driving for Ray Nichels.     

If Nichels had an engine they wanted to get rid of,  they'd paint it yellow and put it in a visible place where people would see it.   I think the one Frasson bought had a tag on it marked "Hold for Snuggy".   Snuggy was Don's nickname because he was tight with Ray.

interesting,  I know don had a complete engine build facility, and had the yellow paint in his shop years ago  Maybe he just liked the color so he stayed with it
