Aero car by default??

I was looking in the latest issue of Mopar Collectors Guide and in Geoff Stunkards column on vintage racing there was a picture of Bob Banning's 68 Charger Funny Car and I noticed he had the backlight flared over with a piece of clear lexan (?) Daytona and 500 style.  Now I don't when he did this but I'm thinking it was done when the car was molded as it looks unfinished in the sail panel area.
Seems the drag racers were also aware of the Chargers shortcomings at high speed.
