Superbird Jack question..

Hey gang..
I have something I'm confused about.. I can't seem to get the jack and holddown bracket to mesh.. Not sure what the deal is.. The bracket, when fitted over the stud in the trunk floor pan, doesn't fit with the jack. Now, I measured the jack base of the Daytona and it is 4 3/4", just like the jack I have for the Superbird. I am assuming, and it is a big one, that the jack that came with the Superbird is the proper one... Maybe it isn't.. Any who, confused...

Hopefully the pictures will shed some light...

last one.. you can see the holddown bracket won't go all the way down.. The scissor jack is as far to the quarter as it will go....

My stud and hold down bracket both have the same measurements as yours.

The problem is simple.....you're placing the jack on the wrong side of the stud. The jack sits "inboard".

I just searched for other pics, and all of them show the jack located on the outboard side. Hmmmm.....maybe mine's been wrong all these years. I've never tried mounting it on the other side of the stud.

I just tried to sit my jack on the "outboard" side, and it will not fit! This is an original jack, original hold down bracket, original stud location.

I'm the third owner, purchasing the car in 1986. And it was mounted "inboard" when I bought the car.

Perhaps some of the studs were installed in the wrong location.

Hemi68charger, Just a thought, in the last picture of the jack on the table, of your OP the base of the jack is totally under the hold down bracket.
In your reply #1 the picture of the trunk, shows the jack is not under the hold down bracket completely, which will move the jack more to the rear.
I'm probably out in left field, but that's all I see from your pictures.
Does the trunk get wider as you move forward?

Not much, it's pretty much the same spacing all the way down, before and after the wing support... I have seen from posts on my Facebook ( where I posed the same question ), that others with Superbirds have the same problem. So, apparently, I'm not allow. I may make an adaptor to have another stud ( mounted off the original ) go up through the hole of the bracket....

Troy,I know for a fact without lifting my mat that the stud in mine is not on the trunk floor extension seam. :shruggy:

My stud is located "at" the extension seam, just like Troy's!   And the jack WILL NOT fit on the correct side of the stud. My guess is that the stud was installed at the wrong location.

Thanks Bill.. I do believe that I will "relocate" the stud when I have the trunk floor replaced..  :2thumbs:

Before you change anything around, read the "Superbird Meeting Minutes" on the aerowarriors.com site.   As the cars were built, they changed things and its documented there.  

Could be the stud is in fact in the right spot.  Maybe the original hold down plate was different.     :shruggy:

I've never owned anything but a MoPar. Can you say that?

As an out you could lengthen the slot in the bracket,probably wouldn't take much.

Yeap, that's exactly what my "last" resort was to do short of relocating the stud. Depending what I end up having to replace in the trunk ( pan-wise ) will determine whether or not I even have to replace the stud on the new floorpan..  But definitely, I will look at Dave's......

Dave,no reference to the stud or rear jack other than jacking instructions decal that is on trunk lid.

Still looking the fleet manual even mentioned whoever vendor supplied the jack bolt stud.this might be fleet book online   http://brcook.com/id38.html
