AC clutch remains on in Heat mode

I put new heater hoses on my car yesterday and that all went well. The heat and AC works well but the compressor clutch remains on when the heater control is in "heat" mode. Any ideas why the compressor is remaining on?

Maybe the  push button selector switch.Also  AC solenoid is sourced from alt and key on .? Maybe solenoid or clutch wires are switched

Where can I find those wires?

Both wires are blue and come of engine harness on passenger side of engine.one goes to alternator which is a double blue it powers the solenoid other comes out ofthe harness maybe near distrbutor.you would need a wiring diagram of a AC set up on a 68 charger to be sure what wires go where and what color I think blue but not sure

Ok thanks I will check it out. FYI, I sold my 68 now I have a 69 RT that my old neighbor owned. I have known the car since I was 16  :cheers:

From the '69 FSM:

Time Delay Relay (Coronet and Charger)

A vacuum actuated time delay relay is located on
the bottom of the fresh/recirculating air door housing.
The purpose of this relay is to reduce the interior
windshield condensation to an acceptable level.
When the ambient temperature is above 25 degrees,
and the heat or defrost buttons are pressed, the
air conditioner will go on for a period of 1 to 10
minutes.

If the system is shut down for less than ten minutes
no delay will occur upon restarting. The relay
will reset automatically after ten minutes shut down.

Interesting info is that the small part with brown and blue wires with angled terminals on it

John that is great info. I read the FSM today but did not see that. Thanks for the info.

Bad news that I discovered today. I have a leaky heater coil :brickwall: For the time being I am just going to block off the input hose and gear up for the removal of the heater coil. BUT when drying up the mess, I saw through the hole in the passenger side carpet another build sheet on the floor board. I reached through the hole in the carpet and rescued the second build sheet. But the build sheet had seen past leakage or wet shoes or something in the past because it is not in great condition. But you can make out the Sequential VIN, the engine code and other important aspects of the build sheet. It was very wet so I am waiting for it to dry and then will stash it with the other build sheet.  :2thumbs:

What John Kunkel said.  My time delay is showing it's age, sometimes 10 min lasts for 20 min.  Might want to check out the heater valve seal as well while you do the core.  My local NAPA had the seal - if you want to tackle that tricky job yourself.

I blocked off the heater core, and it has been so warm in Charlotte I have not worried with it.
