In the last month or 2, the site has been very slow for me. The basic overview is this-
-1st time accessing the site is fine, loads quick and fast. Can choose a board and topic and even reply normal.
-after a reply or if i decide to go back to a different board, it goes into dinosaur mode. Loading bar moves about an inch and just sits there and there is a 50/50 chance i will get the server timeout message before it will decide to load. Can duplicate nearly everytime. Will do this on both my cell (primary use) and i confirmed on the laptop as well. Doesnt matter if its wifi, cell tower, or hard wired modem use. While it is stuck trying to load, i can swap tabs and surf the internet without problem so its not a connection problem. This issue is getting quite frustrating. It makes general navigation for reading topics and also replying difficult and to the point where i dont bother trying after 1 or 2 topics anymore.

It's been a problem for well over a year. Our server is more than two years overdue for an upgrade. Plus we're under near constant attack by hackers and spammers so that doesn't help.

I'm here off and on at all hours of the day. Plus I get email notifications every time there's a "hiccup" so I'm positive that the site isn't slow *all the time* - but often enough that it's a problem.

Troy

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

I have definatly noticed it on occasion in the past, but its become so prevalant now that i would feel comfortable saying 60% of my time on the forum now is twiddling my thumbs waiting for it to load.

I've just presumed it was on my end.   :shruggy:

It's the server that's slow. Logging in and out, closing and reopening your browser, or continually clicking stuff just puts more of a load on it.

It's been slow here too ever since I had to switch to Windows 8.

Maybe it's time to take to take up a one time fund raiser to get the system updated??  We shouldn't expect Troy to foot the bill for everything as well as spend his time to operate and monitor the system.

Any idea of the time/money required for an update?? Any other issues?

c00nhunterjoe

Yeah, what can we do on our end?

I pay for a membership on another site. Its only 20 bucks a year. That's like a dollar 66 a month? On that site it enables you to post pics and ask for prices on things. You could do that here easy. Lot of knowledge on this site. Make it for sale.

Vote for the $20 or so/year and maybe make an app for the site as well?

How are you accessing the site? I use my phone and am not having a problem.

b5blue

Happens time to time to me randomly. I just stop the page load and go play somewhere else. I come back later and it's fine.  :shruggy: No big deal to/for me! I'm still amazed any of this tech crap still functions most of the time at all!  :2thumbs:

Is there a way to 'delete cookies' with this forum? Deleting cookies has helped with other forums when they have slowed down for me, but I have not seen that option here.

Troy

Deleting cookies will only log you out. Then you have to log in again which sets another cookie. So, more work for the server...

I tried to "help" it earlier and broke it for a few hours instead. It does seem faster now though. It should get a lot better some time soon.

I'm not on here as much as I used to but really appreciate this forum. I also love the fact that it's free of ads. I'd be happy to chuck in a few bucks to help.

Bob

How about a PayPal link on the site? That should help with upgrades.
:Twocents:

c00nhunterjoe

Day 2 of no issues for me. It does seem faster, even when loading pictures.

Nothing is easy... so what I really did is purchased a new server, upgraded the OS and all the software to the newest version, then copied over the old web site. Unfortunately, the spell checker code was deprecated and doesn't exist. I tried to install it manually but it chokes. All the forum posts about it say "all the modern browsers have better spell checkers so have your users change browsers". Yeah, that's convenient...

Still looking into it.

ah I see  ,  ok Troy  , anything you can do , would be appreciated !,   I don't know much about computers , my self ! anything that changes on mine or when I install a new fire wall etc is a major headache for me to try & fix it , or end up making it worse , by creating another problem ,  i'm ashamed to say i'm crap at typing still , even after all this time , when  I type on here , I read it through in my head as I type , but  my fingers   , type the wrong letter or leave letters out  or words  .... .  even when I proof read my text i've just typed , don't always spot the mistakes , for some reason ,  :coocoo: bit embarrassing    :yesnod: really &  confusing for anyone reading it  & prolly thinking i'm drunk !!

Just wanted to say from someone that has access to both dial up and wireless cable, they are both comparable in load speed.  This was definitely a good fix. :2thumbs: Pix on dial up are still slower than wireless cable, but not by much.
