It looks like a really nice example although the black around the headlights looks a bit shinier than it should be.
Anyone else have any thoughts? What is it worth? $125K?

bannedbird

That's one of "Hanks" birds, from South Carolina. I bought my recent Bird from him.  Hank has had many Birds. He's had this one for 5 or 6 years. I'm guessing it should sell for over $125K. I'd say $145 not surprising to serious collector. Desirable B5 color with white buckets. 2 broadcasts, fender tag, matching numbers. What is it, one of the first 50 released? (J code puts it at the 49th or 50th ordered Bird, #35 on the 1920 List).

Definitely the best colour in B5!

Although the pictures make it look a little Turquoisey?
Trunk floor pan looks original with those spot welds.
Factory sound deadening inside quarters looks 'rough enough' to be real too...
This is what real enthusiasts look for for in a high dollar car!
(A few PET hates are the white shocks and fully painted underbody).

I like it ALOT!!! :2thumbs: :drool5:

Just needs a black interior and a centre console, even better a 4-SPEED! :slap:

Does the column shifted automatic lower the value versus a console shifted automatic? Just curious.

Pretty sure its this car:

http://mapleleafmopars.homestead.com/carsinbarns36.html

It has had the painted bottom since the 1980's, when it was restored. I will look for the pics I took of it when I was in High School at "Speed Sport"

The car has been for sale off and on for years. Not sure if the market has come that far up to $150k....maybe if he holds onto it longer.

Here are some pics I found from around 1985 when the car appeared at Speed Sport in Toronto...I have some more but I can't seem to find them. Sorry about the quality:

This is when Duncan did the resto...it was quite the car and really impressed me as it just looked over the top mint!

I next came across the Superbird in around 1993 when it popped up for sale at the Performance Improvements on Upper James in Hamilton...it was still looking great. It was priced right at $28k but the timing was terrible as I was getting laid off at the time.

Later that year it showed up at Legendary in Georgetown Ontario for sale for $31k...I believe on consignment. Lee in Ayr Ontario bought it and kept in til just before he passed away and he sold it back to Legendary. It then ended up in South Carolina...I am not sure if there was an owner in between but I have seen him list it a few times for sale over the years.

Here is a pic from Moparfest around 1998 when Lee had it:

That's pretty much the history as I know it, someone else may be able to chime in some more.

Are you sure that is the same car? The photos from the Toronto show appear to have a six pack air cleaner on it if I am not mistaken.

Does the column shifted automatic lower the value versus a console shifted automatic? Just curious.

66FBCharger, Personal preference of the buyers/owners. I passed on a Superbird once because it had bench seats: on the test drive on a cloverleaf I slid across the seat (even with lap belt on). Bought a bucket seat Bird instead. I do love a 4-speed bench seat car, so lot's of variables. In my opinion the console A/T cars are more desirable then non-console A/T when trying to sell a car.

I know tastes have changed. I read that people in the late 60s early 70s liked the column shift auto because it was better for "dating". Personally, I'm a 4 speed guy, but, if I was going to buy an automatic, it would be tough for me to buy a column shifted auto. That is because, my parents' cars were always column shift autos, so to me column shifted autos were never cool. They were old people's cars, like four doors. Just my 2 cents worth.

so what is the opinions on what the car will bring? looks like an honest car with a known history, matching numbers with a good color combination. Anyone know what he wants out of the car?

:popcrn:

I have no clue on what he wants for it.
Hagerty's has it pegged at $176,000. base on the valuation of a #3 (good) car, color dependent.
I guess my thought of $125K is a bit low in these times, however I do not see the car being worth north of $145K as previously mentioned.

I am new here and joined up with the intent to get a feel for the market and keep tabs on it's direction.
It is my intent to purchase a bird within the next couple years if and when the right car comes around.

Sincerely Vic
