PettyMower

I went through all of my California ads, and found the following VIN's:

RM23U0A158607
RM23U0A170183
RM23U0A175662 or RM23U0A178662 (Same dealership listed it both ways, and mistakenly had it as a "V-code" car)
RM23U0A178667
RM23U0A178668
RM23U0A179762
RM23V0A166151
RM23V0A166152
RM23V0A171643
RM23V0A177613

Anyone looking for original ads for your Winged Car (I have a few Daytona & '69 500 ads as well), send me the VIN, State where it was sold new, and/or dealership....any known information.

Hello Petty Mower.  I'd love to find our Superbird in an ad. We've owned her since '99. We're out in CA. Prior to that, it was in Adel, GA. It sat in a dealership for a couple years (from what the previous owner mentioned). And before that, not sure where it came from. Hope it was a GA car. Our VIN is RM23VOA167922.

Would you happen to know of any years where it would have been advertised for sale? If so, where would it have been located at that time?

Thanks,
Jay

I don't, unfortunately. But, in a rare twist of fate, we met with someone who may be the original owner's son at a local car show. He's originally from Atlanta and his father purchased an Alpine White, 440+6 bird, automatic, new from the dealer. They owned it up to about the early 90's. Wonder if this car would have been advertised in and around the Atlanta area at the time.

The entire state of Georgia, from 1969 to 1980....nothing....not a single ad for a Superbird!

Bummer. Thanks for searching Jay. If some of these cars were sold via word of mouth, there wouldn't be an ad for it. The upside, we own a bird :)

I'm sure there were several sold around the Atlanta area. And I'm sure there were dealerships that advertised them. So, my guess is that there was no archiving of newspapers at that time. Sad...probably missed out on some good stuff.

Hi PettyMower.
My vin is 165379 and I believe it was purchased new in the state of Nebraska. It may have been at a dealer with one of the four names.....Grand Island Dodge, Roys Grand Dodge, Schuppan Motors or Parcella Motors. Some of these dealerships as we know changed names somewhat often. Factory color is Alpine white with auto on column.

Thanks and much appreciated for looking.

No luck on any of those dealership names, or any mention of a "white" Superbird. There was a Yellow one (both new and used ads) numerous times.....couldn't get rid of the thing.  LOL  Here's all that I found for Nebraska:

Hi PettyMower!

My wife and I, after a 'forced' 10 year hiatus, finally had an opportunity to replace the Tor-Red 'Bird we once owned. We were able to purchase a U-code, 4spd car that apparently spent most of it's life in California. After doing a VIN search, I came across this old thread in which you actually have the VIN from our new 'Bird listed...

RM23U0A178668

We would love the opportunity to add any history you may have to the other documents belonging to the car. Do you still have the ad(s) for this VIN? If so, what would you like to have for proof of ownership of the car and do you need anything ($$$) for the ads? As you can tell from my username, the passion for these cars run deep and we're looking forward to once again enjoying a wing car!

PettyMower

Hi BirdFlu,

There is no fee for the ads I find, just happy to help out.

Here's the original ad that I found with your VIN:

Birdflu

Thanks a lot! That's pretty cool! Hind sight sure makes a guy question his decision making abilities early on!

Birdflu

Thanks again! I appreciate your efforts and advertising the fact you had those ads. A good friend of mine ended up registering through the website that has the digital archives for the paper. He printed out a full size copy of the paper and sprayed coffee/water mixture on it to give it that 'yellowed' look. It turned out SWEET!

Sorry for the delay in response, I guess I forgot to upload what little I found on your car's dealership. (April 1971)

Well since you asked for other cars than just Superbirds.

XX29J9B133984 would have been in St. Joseph or Louisiana Missouri. Only time possibly to be advertised would have been between October 1968-July 69.

California cars were the only ones advertised with the VIN listed. But, I have found other VINs listed in other States from auctions, repossession, etc.

Your VIN came up empty. But I would be more than glad to search for the dealership where it was sold new or used, if you know their names or towns and states. And with that I would need to know as much detail about the car as possible.....stuff that would be mentioned in the ads.

New guy here. I was wondering if you could find any information on my bird. It's a petty blue car that originally sold from Stockton, California. Pretty sure my car sat on the lot until the middle of 1971.
