I know  this has been talked about a lot on here but I just wanted to make sure. I'm putting a 90 watt alternator in my 69 charger and I want to bypass the bulkhead  connectors altogether .  Can I run a heavy wire from the alternator  to the starter relay, then another heavy wire to the battery  with a fusible  link between the relay and the battery .  Or some kind of fuse. Is that safe? Thanks

I guess you meant 90 amps no watts

Yes you can somehow... but will be "bypassing"  the ammeter too. BUT Add the fuse link BEFORE the starter relay stud. If you add the fuse link after the starter relay stud ( if you do what I'm thinking ) you will be adding the cracking load used by the starter motor solenoid when is activated to the fuse and could blow up. That's if you use the existant batt-relay wire to add the fuse link. If you add the extra wire with the fuse to this path, the fuse link will be virtually unexistant then.

HOWEVER... No need for that virtual ammeter bypas. You can run straight to amm studs too and ammeter will be still on line getting the correct reading.

Once the problem with the power from alt while iddling is saved,  ( and a 90 amps should save that ) the ammeter is not anymore a problem, and just the bulkhead terminals are.

Trust me. My car is a driver ( well it was ) And have being running with this upgrade for 7 years without a problem.

Of course, check for everything to be sure you will be safe ( ammeter studs, nuts, isolators, terminals ). Everything clean and tight

I'm finally about to try it but I wanns double check. So run the alt wire threw the firewall to the original alt gauge and the other side of gauge wire back threw firewall to fusible link then to starter relay? Sorry to ask again. I just suck at wiring and don't want a fire of course.  Thanks

Yes, and mantenience to the ammeter studs ( clean, tight, isolation sheet )
