Re-installed instrument panel, now many electricals don't work.

Gents,

I re-installed the instrument panel on my 68 after replacing wiper, flasher and panel dimmer switches this afternoon along with the tach. Now I have no panel illumination, side markers, tail lights.  Instruments appear to be normal, wipers/flashers/turn signals work.  The new panel dimmer switch appears to do nothing...courtesy lights do not come on when you go over the detent, though they will come on when I open the door.  The headlights come on when commanded.  I looked at the fuses and they all look good.  Anyone else ever seen these symptoms?  The FSM isn't clear.

Thx,

Erik

No tail lights could be turn signal switch. Or rear harness plug behind emergency brake connections.das lights are 3 amp if fuse didnt go jumper wire power to that fuse then dash light may work with out rol dimmer

Most functions worked prior to instrument panel removal...guess I'm going back behind the panel to find out what I missed.

Replaced headlight switch and all lamps (exterior and interior) that were inop now work.  I'm getting good at pulling the instrument panel too.

That's weird- just coincidence that the headlight switch went wonky at the same time?

ErikH

I'm not even sure the old switch was the cause...just intuition.

Now the headlights won't come on...all other lights seem normal.  Will look at the hi-lo switch I guess.

So two days ago the car stopped cranking.  I remembered I could jump the starter relay which did work.  I have recently replaced the neutral safety switch so that could somehow be the culprit.  Also, the headlights only stay a couple of seconds before flashing and not coming on again until a cool down period...and it's new.  Not enjoying this.

Bad headlight switch .swap out another check dimmer switch and its connections. If not turning over by key is the yellow wire from headlight harness which connects to ignition switch circuit  and to starter solenoid making good connection. And check all your chassis grounds
Also check bulkhead connections and all connection clean tight no corrision

Correct.  Bad headlight switch.  Plus a bad ignition switch...which also wasn't very old.  The ignition switch was mechanically breaking apart.  All appears normal now.
