Condensor on electronic ignition system?

Wasn't sure if this should be in electrical or the engine forum?

My 73 with matching 400ci engine and I believe factory electronic ignition.

I was poking around the ignition coil and noticed it had a condensor wired to the positive terminal. I didn't think Chrysler electronic systems (or any electronic systems for that matter) required a condensor.  :scratchchin:

Am I wrong?

Hi,

That condenser on the coil positive really has nothing to do with the ignition system itself. It is there as a radio interference suppressor, especially with an AM radio.

:2thumbs: of course! That explains why it is on the positive side of the coil. If it were a points system it would need to be on the neg side wouldn't it.

Thanks Pete
