Counterfeit VIN tag & someone sure spent some time trying to age a fake fender tag.  :rotz:

mopar4don

OK, what am I missing? Vin is the same

DD

The fender tag is a poor reproduction. It was on the car as early as 2005. It is missing inspection marks, missing option codes and the SPD is incorrect for the VIN sequence and of course the VIN XS23 is incorrect....I would have given consideration to a plant mis-type but the non-original tag puts all in question. Unfortunately I don't have a photo of original tag or broadcast sheet so no way to validate if it actually was an R/T at birth or what options it came with. The tag in 2005 was "un-aged". The car was recently sold at auction in 2022 for around $58k. I fear the buyer bought a pig in a poke.

How can you tell the fender tag is fake?

All the fake fender tag makers would love to know that, they lurk on forums to learn. So spelling out how fake tags are detected would just educate those that capitalize on the fraud in this hobby.

So, it is better for all of us if no one helps those losers learn where they screwed up.  :Twocents:

The fender tag has XS23 also, no such thing :)

That is a paradox. If you tell someone how to spot a fake, you're helping someone.
If a bad person is lurking, it helps them be a more convincing criminal.
Maybe a PM is a better way for individuals to learn?
I'll admit, aside from the "23" number, I can't tell the difference. The VIN tag looks like a clean reproduction and the fender tag just looks like a weathered original with a wrong "23" number instead of "29". AS much as I love these cars, I have not focused my attention on the layout of the fender tags, nor have I memorized the option codes.
I/m grateful for those that do know the difference....unless you are that pompous "Galen" guy.
