The back part of the bucket seat screws keep getting loose. They won't stay tight. When ever I go thru the gears, they fall out. How can I fix them?

Change the 4 speed for an automatic.  :icon_smile_big:

I restored a set of 68 buckets which are different but what does it look like when you remove the panel, is it just that the part where the screw goes in is stripped? is it metal? If so if you have access to a welder, just welding it closed and re drilling?  It won't look correct but bigger screws as an alternative?

I haven't taken the seat back off.

Then maybe bigger screws or use threadlock on the ones you have?  :shruggy: W/O taking the panel off, your guess is as good as mine.

Try sticking a bit of paperclip wire in the screw hole then screw the screw back in place.

Or a small bit of copper wire.

In similar situations I have used the next size larger stainless steel screw. Insert the threaded end in a drill chuck and machine down the screw head just a bit to get it near the size of the original  screw. I used my die grinder with a 120 grit disc-roloc type disc. Then polish the screw head with 320 - 400 grit paper using a paint stir stick to back the sandpaper.

Remove the cover and bend/twist the screw provisions on frame with plyers to accept again the screws. They can be wide opened. BTDT

I'm not familiar with 70/71 covers ( mine is 74 ) but I guess must be the about same. Remove hinge cover screws, I guess the metallic cover will come off and will release the plastic section ( 72/74s are one piece plastic up to the hinges ). Outer hinges screws will be easy but inner must be hard due the console. Can't tell how access to them without remove the seat itself or the console on 70s. 71/74s are a bit easier on that I think because there is a bit more room
