As stated, stuff varies by State over here. I hear of guys back East that have to have annual inspections of their cars.

Maybe that is because of the snow and rust that eats away at the cars back there. In the warmer and drier climates, you can find all kinds of cars from the 60s and earlier with rock solid metal.
