Was looking to see if I could get help in further decoding my broadcast and fender tag. Already did a little but would like my work verified and the remaining decoded. Thanks.

Looks like you have done your homework pretty darn well. The numbers at the very top of the fender tag are Assembly Plant gate/line/sequence numbers & additional codes for your engine/trans/axle. Those I don't know off the top of my head - so I will check those tonight.

As for lines 2 through 6 on the broadcast sheet - again those are partial part numbers and color indicators for the part indicated. Those we all can work on one at a time.

If you have any questions about any particular code and what it means - just let us know.

Scott.

Maybe you should be charging $$ to decode others for them. Nicely done.

626 = Scheduled Production Date, not actual build date

Just skimming thru, the only unknowns you list are the Lynch Rd tag body-in-white numbers.
24110 = Gate Sequence Number = Gate #24; Base #10 (10th body through)
264310 = Line Sequence Number = (164,310th body through)

Last two I'm not positive, they seem to show up on 73-74, don't think its reiterating engine or axle assembly:
571 = maybe another factory off-line area?
288863 = maybe another sequential number for the plant?

look at his broadcast sheet  :scratchchin:
571 = engine

288863 = axle (288) 3.21 sure-grip 9-1/4" w/10" brakes & transmission (863) 3681 863 = 727 for 360-4bbl

:coolgleamA: any pics of the car?

does the Charger still have its door sticker, can you post a pic

Ta da! Now if I can only find my keyboard to type . . .

So 74magnum, is there a specific combo you're looking for #of built, or just in general black/red/white top/360?

74magnum

QuoteMaybe you should be charging $$ to decode others for them. Nicely done.

Lol. Well I can't say it's all correct... that's why I'm here checking with you guys. Thanks for breaking down the gate line sequence stuff.

Quote626 = Scheduled Production Date, not actual build date

Then what's actual build date? Or is that not specified?

Quote288863 = axle (288) 3.21 sure-grip 9-1/4" w/10" brakes & transmission (863) 3681 863 = 727 for 360-4bbl

Makes sense. Thanks.

Yes. I wanna work through it all in due time... I guess right now we're focusing on the tires/wheels.

Yes. Pic to come.

All of it I guess... or whatever is possible to decipher.

Lol - 6bblgt was looking for the other sticker - the one on the driver's door that has the VIN and date on it. Now all we need is someone with a 74 parts manual and we can work through those other lines quick.

As for production numbers, all I have for 1974 is the basics from the White book - number of cars shipped to US dealerships. These numbers don't count the cars shipped off to Canada and International destinations.

For a 1974 Charger Rallye with the 360-4bbl HP engine - 661 were shipped. Of those 94 came with the 4-speed, and 567 came with the Auto.

Just considering those numbers - you have a pretty desirable 74 Charger. A Rallye with the 360 HP is a great combo!

Just remembered that you can go to the My Mopar website and download the 1974 Parts Catalog! All the part numbers can be found there.

Nacho - the 74 Parts catalog can be downloaded from the My Mopar website - so magnum74 can start looking up the part numbers that are listed on lines 3 thru 6 on his broadcast sheet.

All I got so far... Red i cant find or no number listed which matches 2 or 3 digit number... Black is good as far as I know.

sdweatherman

This is the tough part on these sheets. I am learning right along with you. Looks like not all numbers are partial part numbers - some numbers just signify the type of part possibly.

For 355X97000 - broken down:

355 is type of column. I found 351 is B-body, Auto Trans, Column shift. Since your car has a center console,
355 likely means: B-body, Auto Trans, Console Shift.
X9 - Black in color.
700 is likely a column for just Power Steering. (708 is a column for PS and Speed Control)
0 probably means no additional column accessories. (5 means the column has an ignition light)

For the Steering Wheel - S86 is the standard wheel I think.

08X9: 08 is the Steering wheel Type. (09 is a three spoke padded wheel)
X9 is just Black again.

18X9: 18 is horn pad type, X9 Black.

Inlet hose - double check the numbers on your sheet - 3780662 should be it.

Fan Spacer - 3769616 - Fan spacer 7.25" dia Thermal

Battery - No hits for 66. (3755069 is Series 27/ 70 Amps / Red caps)

Nothing so far on the Vac fitting 11.

571 863 88 is just the engine/trans/axle assembly numbers.

Pin is the Speedometer Pinion Gear - 32 Teeth - possibly - 2538932

Wheels - TX9 - is Black again, Nothing yet on the 60 and 00.

QuoteLooks like not all numbers are partial part numbers - some numbers just signify the type of part possibly.

Exactly. That's basically what I was told by Richard at MYMOPAR... He said that some number weren't part numbers but more so number indicators for the assembly workers to reference to know what part is called for to be installed... So maybe "inlet hose ... the 02" could be a bin or area to get the hose from.... but 02 might not be in the part number at all... who knows.

Thanks for the other numbers deciphered... I'll take a look more closely when I can.

74magnum

Inlet hose definitely says 02... Battery number hard to read the 2nd number but as far as I know i cant se it being anything else other than 66...

6bblgt

most of them ARE the last digits of the "assembly" part number - sometimes the assembly part number is NOT a purchasable part listed in a Parts Catalog

if your broadcast sheet "INLET HOSE" is definitely  "02" it's either a typo or there is another hose part number ending in "02"

got pics of your sheet?

6bblgt

upper radiator hose #3462 102 was replaced by #3780 662 (possibly during the '74 model year)

6bblgt

BATTERY looks like a typo "6(" - "(" is uppercase/shift "9" which would be the 70 amp/hr group 27 battery #3755 069 (OPTIONAL F25)

but that doesn't make sense with your F24 in the "HEAVY DUTY FLEET" section

"66" makes a little more sense: the 55 amp/hr group ? battery #3755 066 (I'll "ASSUME" group 24, 375cca)

I have a couple '74 360 Challenger b'cast sheets coded "F24" & "66" for battery - I think this is the STANDARD 360 4bbl battery

6bblgt

Your STEERING COLUMN is 355X97000

3 = for b-body
5 = for automatic transmission
5 = for floor shift
X9 = painted BLACK
7 = for power steering
0 = w/o shift indictor light
0 = w/o cruise control
0 = w/o ignition key lamp

74magnum

Where did you get the original # for the upper hose? Also, where did you look to get the info for the steering column breakdown?

Thanks.

74magnum

6bblgt

the 3462 102 upper hose is listed in the September '72 version of the 1973 Parts Catalog
the 3780 662 upper hose is listed in the April '74 version of the 1974 Part Catalog (it is listed as a new part number not listed previously)

part numbers can change in the Parts catalogs before, during, or after the actual change takes place on the factory floor

the steering column decode was reverse engineered by "C O D Y" as he built the 1970 e-body Broadcast Sheet decoder on e-bodies.org

What's the correct wheel number that the spoke covers would go on? 3580068?

per GG's "white book":

3580068 is a 14x6.0" "RALLYE" wheel

3461954 is a 14x6.0" steel wheel (1972 b-body)
3580060 is a 14x6.0" steel wheel (1972-'74 b-body)
3621954 is a 14x6.0" steel wheel (1972-'74 b-body)

:shruggy: not sure why 3 are listed or which would be correct  :icon_smile_question:

74magnum

Me neither... says "60" under wheels on the broadcast so I'll assume the 3580060 is correct... but I've seen it stated that they're all the same other thank numbers/date codes... at least that my understanding.... for wheels I'm not picky so if "60's" don't surface then I'll look for any of the other ones that are the same i guess.

74magnum

Found out what "00" means under the spare tire. Apparently same as road wheel.

I've learned some things following this topic. My 74 Charger Ralley has a B5 blue exterior and a blue interior which I always believed was S1B6 looking at color charts. However, the carpet-mat color on the broadcast sheet, 5th row,  is typed as B7 for the color. Is this correct and what is the color called?
Thanks.

a blue/green/tan/etc. interior is going to have more than one shade of color - the darker B7 carpet is probably correct for your B6 cloth & vinyl bench interior

74magnum

Well I've found 1 "60" wheel. Stamped by valve stem. M34 5 13 penstar 3580060. I assume that M34 is motor wheel plant 3 year 1974 and the 5 and 13 correspond to month and day? So May 13th 1974.
