The short answer for me is "yes". Everything is mor fun with a manual. Shop around if you can though cause you will pay extra for the convenience of one stop shopping. Sometimes that can be a good thing too.
68 Charger R/t white with black v/t and red tailstripe. 440 4 speed ,black interior

I'd recommend Silver Sport Transmission (SST) in Tenn.

K-E

If your going all out drag racing, yes the 833 is the superior animal in stock form, although the Tremec can be modified for use in the 1000-1500 hp range if so desired, but an OD is not practical nor needed for a race only vehicle if going in a straight line, road course is a completely different story where an OD has a benefit over a 833, even a modified OD 833....

I'll assume the OP is more interested in a nice cruiser, so why not take advantage of a modern OD, then he's not limited to his choice of rear gears, RPM range, poor MPG, or stuck driving on the highway in the low speed lane because he can't keep up with minivan's running OD transmissions...  :Twocents: :scratchchin:

If that's USD?, then the price increase is a good $1K+ higher than I told you it would be  :eek2:

For that price you could step into a new T56 6spd from SST with the same basic parts list that Brewers quoted you, plus get a 10,000 RPM balanced new driveshaft/yoke/joints included, and a 3 year warranty...if you do decide to go TKO or T56 go with the hyd throw out bearing set up, SST also has pedals/shifters/etc...SST is a one stop shop for a Tremec install, you won't have to worry about sourcing misc items

If your interested talk to Jeff Kaufman at SST for quotes/pricing/application

FYI: TKO600 5spds last I recall were in the $3500 to $5K range depending on what you required transmission and component wise...but generally you'll find the 6spd is comparable in price to the 5 spd, and in some applications actually less than the 5 spd for the same application, whatever you decide 4,5 or 6 speed, it'll be a lot more fun to drive than the slush box that's in it now...

I would have Jeff at SST quote out the T56 6spd, it should come out close or maybe a few bucks cheaper than the 5 spd TKO...

If the OP wants to shave a few bucks off he could source his own 4 spd pedals, and eliminate the hyd TOB from the TKO package, but having done TKO's with mechanical linkage and hyd TOB's, it's a day and night comparison, IMHO I wouldn't touch mechanical linkage in a swap anymore...

From the tailshaft mods and assorted other parts, it looks like an American Powertrain TKO....IMHO I'd pass on it

kevs1969daytona

So I bit the bullet and got the Tremec TKO 600 from Redcliff Alberta, which is about 350 miles from where I live.  Timing was good because I was in actually already going to Taber Alberta for the Policeman Ball.  Anyways it was about $3700 all in, thats about $2900 USA.  He paid few years back $5200 USA.  Very nice older guy says maybe 800 miles on it. Cross my fingers.  P.S. the center mount is were all B body Mopars shifters are located according to SST transmissions.
