I surely didn't expect this from a Snap On tool. Looking it up it seems to be quite common, a bit dissapointing though....  :rotz:

alfaitalia

That's a pity.....but I'm guessing its the same as over here with Snap Off (!) tools having a lifetime warranty. :shruggy:

It literally fell apart in my hand. From my understanding the lifetime warranty is only for the original owner, so I'm SOL. I don't like the local Snap-On guy so I wont buy anything from him but that's another story, shame....

Hammer rot? Chemicals, heat/sun and impact shock will kill a lot of items.
I do not think I have any Snap-on tools. 'Lifetime Warranty' in todays world is just a catch phrase. :brickwall:

Last thing I bought from Snap On was in 1984 !

As for lifetime warrantee, Sears use to have it.. but the only one I know where you don't even need the receipt is Canadian Tire and their Mastercraft line of tools. Break one, walk in.. hand the broken item to the gal at the courtesy desk and go get a new one off the shelf for free. No questions asked, 10th owner or not.

That's how it is with Snap on in the UK. They have their reputation to protect. The few bits they replace must be a drop in the ocean compared to what they sell. We use Snap on (and others) at my work.....one of the boys snapped a breaker bar.....may have had something to do with the 6 foot long piece of scaffold pole he had slipped over it and was hanging from when it snapped! The rep in their van looked at the broken one with a knowing smile and handed over another.....not so much as a word exchanged!!!

thats a trusty cook made snap on hammer,  snap on knows they have a issue ,  snap on will swap it out with zero issue,  give them a call and they will mail you a new one

RCCDrew

I've seen those hammers do that.  The rubber gets old.  Crappy material.  As for me, I'll never buy another Snap On tool. Back when I was working on cars there was no internet and no harbor freight. Now the quality of Harbor Freight stuff is good enough that you can get a decent tool at 1/5 the price. I can bench 350 but can't break the ratchet, that's good enough for me.

I guess I'll send them an email and see what happens, I'm not expecting much but you never know.

If they won't replace it, then list it on ebay as a barn find, low mileage.

Call the Snap-On Tools U.S. customer service number 877-762-7664.  Speak to a representative and explain your situation.    It would help if you know the part number out of the online catalog.

my snap on guy would replace it no questions asked.

The dead blow is dead too, but didn't completely disintegrate.

Ghoste

Had one do the same thing, figured it was just crappy old brittle plastic.

XS29L

Had one of those orange hammers for about 15 years when it fell apart.  Local snap-on dealer replaced it , no problem.

I had one many years ago shatter like that into hundreds of pieces while working on a car in like 15 degree weather.

It's a common, practically standard, problem with the Snap-On polyurethane hammers.
I've noticed the same sort of spontaneous crumbling with polyurethane on caster wheels.
