A friend posted up this 8mm footage of USAC stocks running at Knoxville Iowa,  June 1972.    It's good stuff.   You will have to make your own Hemi sounds as you watch.

It's early in the 1972 USAC season.    Being a dirt race,  the independents have a real shot at the win.     You'll see a little bit of practice and qualifying.    #7 is Milwaukee modified ace Paul Feldner in the yellow 1970 Coronet.   This was a car that started out as a '65 Coronet and was continually updated.     #40 is Dan Dickey from Packville Iowa.   The Charger he is driving was (and is now back to) the #7 Jack McCoy Daytona.  (When you didn't want to compete against your old car,  you sold it to someone far, far away.)

About 2 minutes in, is the trophy dash, which is Feldner,  Dickey,  Verlin Eaker in the #99 Terry Nichels owned Charger and Lem Blankenship in the #6 1971 Charger.     Eaker prevails in the thrilling preliminary event and is shown receiving the trophy from the announcer.

Then comes the 100 lap feature.   #75 is Butch Hartman, the defending series champion.    Don White is #9 and is driving the old #88 record setting Daytona.    Eaker, Hartman and White battle throughout.
Ramo Stott in the orange #91 1972 Charger drops out with engine trouble.     The eventual winner was Chuck McWilliams in the orange #27 1971 Road Runner.    This was one of the Fred Lorenzen STP Road Runners the previous year.

Post race shows Hartman,  Eaker, Feldner and Ray Bolander in the #100 Monte Carlo (from my hometown).  Ramo visits with fans and signs autogrpahs.   Feldner's yellow Coronet gets  loaded up onto the school bus transporter.     Cool stuff.

Box score here.

I've never owned anything but a MoPar. Can you say that?

Doug,
Thanks for posting!
I finally had time to watch the entire video.
But first I went to the entry list and found my friend Zane Whitcombs dad Dave on it.
He did well during the race moving up from his 21st starting spot to a 7th place finish!
I always have wondered how Dave would have done with a well sponsored effort?
