Hello from down under,
I went to pay my classic car insurance (Shannons Insurance), these guys are the leading guys to insure classic collector cars in Australia. They also have auctions once every 2 months. I almost fell over when I saw the Superbird for sale (you just don't see them in Australia), the I noticed the HEMI under the bonnet. The VIN is RM23R0A176669, Hemi Orange, white interior, black vinyl roof, Auto, console. Couldn't get a picture of the fender tag (car was roped off) but will endeavour to get one.
Do you guys know this car? Car was roped off so I couldn't get close enough to see the "numbers" or Fender Tag.
I would be absolutely amazed if it is indeed a real Hemi Superbird in Australia.

I've never owned anything but a MoPar. Can you say that?

Yep that's the car $400,000 US. That would owe the bloke about $800,000 AUS after taxes.
I knew not to ask what the reserve was!

A12 Superbee

Pretty nice car!

Where abouts is it advertised here in Australia? I haven't seen mention of it anywhere!

A12 Dodge Superbee Coupe 4 speed Car number 157 in the A12 Registry.
XBGT Ford Falcon sedan, same model as Max drives in The Roadwarrior, the yellow car he starts off in.
WANT: Triple black 68 or 70 Charger!

DC69RT

It isn't advertised as yet, it's sitting in the showroom at Shannons Melbourne office. Will go up for auction in their April auction.
Must ask the reserve. Don't know if anyone here will pay the ask price.

It is a big ask, but probably not AUD$800k. Tax is only (only) 10% on import (no duty or luxury car tax I believe) and so all in landed it would owe about AUD$570k (USD$450k) assuming he paid the full amount from RK.

Beautiful car but way out of my league.

DC69RT

Mmmm luxury car tax is applicable. I know because I bought a 70 Charger R/T in to Australia in September and had to pay. It's 33% on the amount over $62,000 and that is calculated including the 10% GST import duty.
Yep a 47 year old car gets hit by luxury car tax.

Gawd you are correct. That doesn't seem reasonable does it. Still this poor bloke would have been up for about $150k in LCT as well. All in about AUD$720k, so your call of AUD$800k is in the ball park. Better off exporting it and trying to claim the LCT back and bring it in on a carnet.
