Daytona nose cone : How many bolts hold it on ??

Ok so I am looking at getting a fiberglass nose cone for my clone car

On a real Daytona what holds the cone itself to the car ??

The two pieces of channel that comes off the car frame rails ( that used to hold the regular 69 bumper ) has a plate that goes across the two channels and bolt to the back bottom edge of the cone
At the top the latch tray holds the top edge of the cone

Z brackets
Other than where they pass the top and bottom edge of the nose cone do they fasten to the cone inside ?

Do the headlight buckets fasten to the nose cone or just the Z bars ?

headlight bucket attach to nose by 5 bolts aside .then z brackets  then to channel bars and cross support

Unless your going for the stock look you could always make a custom bracket to hold the nose cone on like I did.

Thanks

I did notice the way you did yours when you first posted the pictures  :2thumbs:
For now I think I will try to mount mine the original style way

The reason i asked my question in the first place was I have not noticed any lip or bracket on the inside of any of the new fiberglass nose cones for sale for a Daytona

Did you have to add something to the inside of your nose cone to mount your home made bracket to ??

I enquired to Janak about getting a bunch of parts from him and ship a nose cone to me in Canada
He did not seem very helpful and said he could ship it to the boarder but I would have to come get it myself or the box is this big and this heavy find your own way to ship it from his place to my place  :rotz: :rotz: :rotz:

i'll post a pic of the fiberglass Z brackets I got from Janak when I get home. If you want them I will sell them to you for what i paid for them.

There are attach points along the bottom of the z-bracket and then the top of the nose is attached to the latch tray. The bottom is connected to the valance........

So is there a piece of angle iron type of thing fastened to the nose cone itself on the bottom inside for the Z brackets to fasten to ?
But on the bottom only and not on the top side the same way ?

There are C channels that attach to the frame just like a stock front bumper.

the Z brackets inside the nose then attach to said C channels

your correct.... here's a pic of a Bird cone inside, similar to a Tona'.... the lower flanges on the center section each have 3 holes to bolt onto the bottom of each Z bar, this is the basic support for the entire nosecone shell

last pic is of Janaks fiberglass cone showing the lower ribs....

Assembly procedure basically for a nosecone is: assemble light buckets completely, turn nose over on it's top skin, install each light bucket in the cone's headlight openings, there's 5 skinny head special bolts that need to be installed along with each bucket, you do this first because you can't install the 3 side bolts later, only the front 2 bolts of each bucket could be installed later if desired, the bolts are installed in the side flanges first, then the bucket assy is lowered onto the flanges, the buckets have a slot to allow the bolt to slide the bucket into place, then you install each Z bar, tighten the 3 lower flange bolts on the bottom center section previous posted above to hold the Z bar in place, the various holes you see on the Z bar allows the bolts/nuts that hold the headlight bucket assy together to protrude thru the Z bar, there is 1 upper bucket bolt that uses an angled bracket that holds the headlight pivot safety spring, this pinches the Z bar between the angled brace/bracket and the headlight bucket, when you have these major components together, than you can flip the nose over/upright, and begin the tedious chore of cam alignment to pitch/yaw/raise/lower the outer doors in the closed position to achieve alignment, then the entire cone can be bolted to the C frames mounted on the vehicle by the 6 bolts per side located in the lower Z bar section that attaches to the C frames, the C frames use 2 bolts per side to attach themselves to the frame, ( using bumper bracket frame bolts) the upper latchtray is also a major support piece tying in the cone to the upper radiator yoke, there's a ton of smaller details like cross braces, air seals, etc that I left out, I just covered the basics for now, once you have all the pieces, you'll see how it falls into place, or just ask here.....

FYI... only 2 fiberglass cones on the market that have ALL the mounting flanges as original,    ...... Dayclona and Janak cones

Here's what a basic mockup looks like to just trial fit assys before actual assy

I referred to Hemi Geno's Daytona build thread many times during my clone build. It was great not only for a wing car build but any 2nd gen build. I spent a couple of hours catologing what was on every page so if I needed to refer to a certain area of the car I could just look up what pages it was on. Not thumb thru 70+ pages.
Here is a link to the thread. If your computer layouts out the pages the same as mine you will find pics of the nose cone on the following pages: 22,28,29,42,42,52,61,72.
Latch tray: 28,29,31,41,71,74,75.
