My understanding is that Milt was grinding a part for another car he was working on.   He finished and even painted the part.    Went to the house for lunch which is on the same property, but several hundred feet away.    Came back to the shop and it was going.    He had time to get a phone out of the garage and call 911.   The smoke was too bad to go back in.    The keys to the Bird were in the house as it was parked for a clutch job.  The building about 40' x 70' was all wood and burned very quickly.

The other two cars,  the Iggy Katona #30 and a Rampage project were also burned.     The Katona car was the least damaged, but would still be considered a total.

Milt is just the nicest guy and I hate that this has happened to him.

According to the links, the sealed bid auction for these cars ends at noon, today.

I heard he was insured, but under insured on the SuperBird.
The Bird was a B5 car that Gary Rollins (remember the RTS club in Detroit?) redid in 1981 with a 510 CI, 6 pack.

Milt's a good guy and it's awful that this happened.  He plans to rebuild.
I've never owned anything but a MoPar. Can you say that?

This is truly tragic and heartbreaking.
Milt is always the friendliest guy and drove 'em like they were meant to be driven.

At least glad he wasn't injured in the event.

Should be very interesting to see what they sold for

First off like Dave I'm glad Milt is ok and didn't get hurt trying to get something out of the fire.
If the fire was only a couple of weeks ago who did he have for insurance?
It seems really fast to come out and appraise the damage, settle with Milt, transport them to the auction and get them listed!

All the photos are at the burn sight ? so maybe they never transported them ??  just doing the online auction thing  ?   Just a guess because if they had them on sight they would have pictures of it in the auction lot  ? it happened on August 29th

Does anybody know what they sold for? The links send you to a "no longer exists" page.

Mopar John

I just received my latest copy of Mopar Collectors Guide and they have an article on the fire.
In it they state that Milt is going to rebuild one of the burnt stock cars?
So did Milt buy them ALL back himself in the auction?
