Strong for a U code car that isn't running.    Car does look really solid.

This one definitely has a lot patch work on it. Bottom of doors, trunk pan, no pentastar on the lower fender, quarters are patched up. undercarriage was spray bomb over rust then sat on a damp concrete  floor.

I think the car is still cool but I hope who ever is biding on it knows it going to need a complete body restoration. I would compare it to Taxspeakers green barn find prior to being restored but I think Taxspeakers car has a way nicer undercarriage and is a better starting point because you know what you have. :Twocents:

A lot of hype on both of these cars. Doesn't seem too logical that they are bid up soo high in such a short time and at the same rate...I heard from a person that the cars were local to that anyone bidding on these cars would be well advised to see them in person before you get caught up in the moment.

Thanks again for taking the time to save and post all the pictures and description :2thumbs:

Just pushed over 150 and hit it's reserve  :o . Two other birds on ebay that look pretty well restored for only a little more money. Seems kinda odd. :pigsfly: :pigsfly: :pigsfly: :pigsfly:

EBay ad states last registered in 1985 and 1987.
Cars are 1970 cars.
White bird has Maine antique plates.
Maine does not issue antique plates until cars are at least 25 years old according to their website today
1970 car plus 25 years equals 1995 (minimum) registration date
So when was it really last registered?

held1823

the flipper has already put them in his name

i think he referred to the last time the long-term owner plated them, then mentioned this towards the bottom of the ad

Ernie that white one has antique plates on it as it was put on the trailer to haul away-I'm not so sure those were the same plates referred to in the ad

i didn't notice that it was a different plate until you pointed that out.

I was at a car show in Maine yesterday and got a different story on these birds. They were owned by a guy who has no internet (so not up the speed on current prices), but is a diehard Mopar guy. Supposedly he refused an offer of 150k for both last year because he knew the guys that were buying them would clean them up and flip them. This new buyer apparently owns a classic car dealership in Mass. He must have forgot to tell the seller he was a flipper and told the seller he would keep them, bought them for 137.5k. The blue one has a lot of used sheetmetal in the rear. The seller bought the metal from salvage yards down south years ago before they began to reproduce sheetmetal. The white bird has been driven recently and was photographed at a Mopar show at a Dodge dealer two summers ago.

Still a great find.

So, is the seller pissed off the buyer lied & bought cheap by saying he was going to keep them, just to turn around & flip them :shruggy:  You can't trust anybody. :slap:

Well in all fairness. Supposedly the previous owner met the new owner after he purchased the Blue Superbird at the Owl Head Auction for $187,000.00 dollars. So to say he had no clue on the current values of these car is not quite accurate. However I myself feel that these two birds are way over priced considering that they have sat non-running for 30 years.

IMO, the Blue Bird is a $125,000 car max in its condition and the white one should be closer to $115,000 max.
The market is getting carried away and is overdue for a correction. Just my .02 cents, Vic

I agree! I cannot believe that people are willing to pay over $150K for a car that doesn't even run...just to be part of a STORY! Let alone the fact that it's a N.E. car with Rusty Jones decals on it. I guarantee, with the obvious patches the car is laden with, a media blast is probably going to make it's new owner puke in a bucket! These cars are NOT survivors, nor should they be priced as such. IMO they both are Superbird project cars and their selling prices should reflect that...but who am I to say? You can buy a NICE original, or restored, numbers matching 440-4 Superbird well within the price of these cars.  :yesnod:

Wow it's up to 157000 with 2 days to go. The flipper is going to make a lot of $$$.

All I can say is BIG TIME IRS capitol Gains for both involved  Especially selling thru Ebay and being spread all over internet. I am sure seller did not expect such a highly publicized sale. EBAY will submit to IRS  and then paying in cash as one article states buyer just lost his BASES on purchase price...And even worse now there is a lawyer involved   Its gonna get ugly.

Redbird

It is also a short term gain. So no Long Term basis for Capital Gains.

And you can no longer do a 1031 exchange.   That tax loophole formerly applicable to collector cars was done away with the recent "tax cut" reform.
