I have a 70 headlight motor that I have been trying to test. I have been hooking it up to a battery and it does nothing. There is a two wire pigtail that I have been hooking it up to attempt to test it, there is also a prong that has a two wire (what looks to be) ground on it. No combination of the four wires connected to the positive/negative terminals of a battery will get it to budge.  Testing it on a car is not an option. The knob turns freely on the end and spins the headlight rod. Have I been hooking it up wrong to test it?

Ground the negative to the motor case and positive to one wire or the other wire ( forward and reverse)

Try turning the knob at the same time to see if it will try to turn

Running it without being installed can crack the gear. Ground the motor and each prong of the plug is up or down.
