Give or take.  December 4th was the scheduled date anyway so thats the day I count.

Back N Black

Cool, how do you determine the build date?

Ghoste

Fender tag or build sheet.  On your car Back N Black, since it is a 69, , it will be in the second line from the bottom of the fender tag and it will be second group of digits from the right.  It will be a group of three and it will either be three numbers or a letter and two numbers.  Letter will be A, B, or C and indicates October, November or December.  the last two digits indicate the day.  If the first digit is a number, then it corresponds to a month, 1 for January, 2 for February and so on.
So for example on my car, it reads C04.  On my last 69 it was 416 making it scheduled for build on April 16.

green69rt

Just looked at mine.   416.

Oh wow, mine was 351855 for the last six on the VIN.  How close are they in that part?

Doesn't sound close at all.

154511

Ghoste

Thats for sure.  Your VIN falls more in line with cars built around the end of October, I wonder why it took so long to assign it.

I'm gonna guess your tag reads A16, and is probably a St. Louis Assembly Plant car?  If it were a Hamtramck car, the SPD for 154511 would likely be in mid-late September (circa 9/20/68) - and I don't think that's as likely to be mistaken for an April '69 SPD.  However, an Oct '68 SPD (A = October), is another story... and that's about where 154511 would fit into the mix at the St. Louis Assembly Plant if memory serves me correctly.

I'll take a stab at this one also - I'm guessing this is a St. Louis Assembly Plant car also?  My 127 SPD St. Louis-assembled car was VIN sequence 210100, so that fits a whole lot better.

And for whatever reason, St Louis cars tend to have VIN sequences follow the calendar a little more closely.  Much more common it seems that with Hamtramck Chargers, just because a car was scheduled to be built on one day does not mean that a car built at a later date won't have a lower VIN sequence.

maxwellwedge

Yes. An original Chrysler invoice or window sticker will give you a way better idea of when the car was actually built.

IMO  :Twocents: the date on an invoice, window sticker, or "consumer info" sheet is simply that document's print date

I've been working on a few "Actual Production Date" In Plant/In Process calendars, I have most of the model years 1968-'70 St. Louis & '70 Hamtramck pretty much figured out & am working on a few others - all you need is a Broadcast Sheet.

I just went and looked again and got it all wrong.  I was quoting the title document number. :eek2:  I have no idea why I did that.

Last four digits of VIN is 351925!!!

Now that's close!

Edit: Window sticker says Hamtramck Plant

Wish your Charger Happy birthday for me.  :2thumbs:

Lets see , cars lasted about 7 years back then, so in human years that would be about 500 years old? Looks pretty good for half a millennium.

I'm sure Dodge never intended it to still be around.  lol
