mr. hemi

The '65 block appears to be a race hemi piece. It has higher comp. ratio pistons than the '70 block. So, I wouldn't call the '65 a |"warranty block", but still a rare barn find. The white building in the distant background of this photo is the Marysville Michigan Parts depot, formerly the Chrysler Marine Plant where all the hemis were assembled. Chrysler marine use to test engines in the river there when I was a youngster. Surprising how fast a test barge goes with RB and Hemi power onboard.
You know you are vintage when someone says, "Back in the day", and you can dispute their facts.

Starting bid US $39,000.00

:smilielol:  :smilielol:

the prices are crazy  :yesnod:

keep looking at these blocks , wonder where they been hiding all this time , someone should of cleaned them up & lubricated stuff &  turned them over every now & again , should of been stored properly & to hell with the original Chrysler packaging.  barn / field / woods  basement finds are only good entertaining  to read, wow look what I found etc  not practical as in , could this stuff be really mint etc after a good blowing off with an airline & a vacuuming etc then a hose job with WD40 , but be like new  , sadly no ...

looks like now they both need to be decked & over bore of +60  maybe  every cylinder bore needs a sleeve / liner ... who knows  :shruggy:  true where else are you going to finf NOS hemi blocks like this  , but  for the 39k & up,  think they at least would be complete refreshed built motors with a NOS block !  still good luck to the seller , every one tries to make a bit of money,   would like to buy them my self , but don't sound like  seller would  dismantle for inspection  :shruggy:  & sure would not accept my 3k offer for both either

And it looks like that one for sale was fished out of the river.

mr. hemi

If the starting prices weren't so ridiculous, I would see if I could take a look at them. I don't live all that far from the listed location.

No. Looks like some paint.
I've never owned anything but a MoPar. Can you say that?

TONY

about 10 years ago i bought 5 or 6 NOS 440 forged crank shortblocks, crated and had heavy cosmoline on them.
i had to part out 1/2 of them due to the blocks being so rusty where the pistons sat in the cylinders.

i wouldnt consider putting that type of money into anything like those on the auctions unless the cylinders could be checked prior to purchase, or just  plan on needing 8 sleeves into your cost and if they dont need them its a bonus

There is a lot of "blue sky" packed into those prices.

Dano 1

Such a shame they got so rusty, you're in for an overbore or sleeve job right off the bat. Of course if you bore it those standard bore pistons are useless. Since these have no VIN stamps, what's stopping someone with a non-numbers matching hemi car to magically discovery their numbers engine block after 10 minutes with some stamps?

No different than anyone out there with warranty block in their car or a 10" diameter milling cutter... honesty.

Hey, they are rare pieces!

Let's see photos of everyone else's NOS hemi short block assemblies!

I know I don't have one, let alone two!

TONY

Greg
nobody is disputing their rarity.

just the condition or potential condition of the cylinders is unknown and i would have thought that someone putting that kind of value on something would have done more so its condition is not an unknown to a potential buyer.

the only condition description offered is that it has cosmoline and some has worn off

Question
What car could possibly be worth $50 000 more ( by the time you buy this and do all the needed machine work ) with this replacement hemi block motor in it than if they already had a hemi in the car ????????

Other than possibly a Daytona that was really special ?
