Time goes on and cars change hands. I'm the fat one not the purple one, on the way home to Indiana

Birdflu

Good for you! I spoke with Mike about the car as well, but it sounded like he wanted to keep it until after the reunion. Oh well, glad a member of this board acquired the car!  :2thumbs:

b5 blue original, white interior still there and looking good (as good as white can look) and only 1,652 original miles (1/4 at a time)
dana 4.89 rear (original was 3:55 8 3/4)
automatic on column (moved to line-locked hurst automatic floor shift), leaks like a sieve will check it out closely next weekend
hemi and 2-4's engine fires and runs on first click
open headers still from drag racing days with original, non-hooked to headers exhaust
cool can still mounted on inner passenger fender, but not hooked up
no spare or jacks (removed for drag racing)
dash mounted old school sun tach
clean body with no significant rust
paint shows its age-will be getting paint repaired but not repainting
plan on maintaining the rest of the car as is after fixing leaks, cleaning it up, and fixing a number of non-drag racing things that broke over time (lock cylinders, etc.)
SHowing it feb 8-10 at World of Wheels in Indianapolis where it won NHRA Summernationals class in 1970, along with the Stealth bird we just finished, the Alaska highway Superbird and the Daytona.
Will be taking to Talladega in October if accepted, along with its family members but no other show plans this year unless my buddy wants to take it for me.

Wow, all I have to say is wow!
My dream car there, B5 blue, white interior, automatic hemi car.
You certainly do have the knack of finding and buying wing cars, congratulations.

Does it still have the original #'s engine and trans?

Not original motor, I remember Mike had been looking for it since he had the car.
Believe it was last known in NJ area if I remember correctly.

None of the drivetrain is original. I had looked for the engine and trans for years as well. The headers aren't original to the car either, just a pair of hooker headers I gave along with the car when it went to Mike.

Nice car. Love the old time 70's look. LEON. :2thumbs:

I'm pretty sure I saw this car at Carlisle not too long ago. :scratchchin:  Is this that car?

taxspeaker

Yep. Mike Hill (previous owner and super nice guy) showed it at Carlisle and at MCACN in Barn find section. He got it from Sy (2nd previous owner), the above poster who commented on the headers.

He's the guy who bought the 2 birds in the woods and had one restored by Graveyard Cars right?

That is a very nice car, I talked to Mike at Garlits a few years back and he showed me the car. The doors still shut nice and tight, it has very low miles, I guess 1/4 at a time. The hemi sounds strong as it should, the paint job is crazy for sure, congrats on getting the car Tax Speaker!

That's an awesome story!  Congrats!   :2thumbs:

Update on the Purple People Eater

We decided that there will be no changes to the car other than safety related. So, I have done some rewiring for safety, a real deep cleaning and a tune up and that's it. I fixed the alternator wiring and power steering and still hope to do some brake work. The engine runs and the tranny leaks some, and at some point I may nostalgia race it but for now its only going to be kept clean and dry in the shop, taken out 1 or 2 times a year for car shows. It will be sitting on the back of the old Dodge Ram ramp truck I just got so that it is easy to take to a show but not taking up extra room.

About 3 weeks ago there was a real nice local show about 3 miles from here. I decided to drive it (open headered hemi, slicks and all) to the show. Got there and back without being arrested and it was a real, and I mean a real hit. People could hear it coming for the last mile or so and were lined up to see the car. It is a real time capsule of history and the show affirmed it will stay that way. I will be bringing it to Talladega, but not driving it!
