From my research. Thats about the norm.

Im sure there are lesser options if you really dig into it.
Im more concerned with using a reputable carrier to know my car will get here when its supposed to get here ,,cost is secondary for me

I can't comment on price from first hand experience ?
but imo,
as a Business Owner myself(Machine Shop), I know things all add up ?
and I can't see much less than a buck a mile given Fuel, a decent Rig, Insurance, repairs/maintenance, living costs,  and on and on and I'm sure much, much more....

 I tried him. He was not interested.  I paid another private individual 1,350 to have it towed from So. Cali to KC. Open Transport.
