Door Lock and Handle

I replaced the exterior door handles and attached the linkage.
I found that when trying to push down the inside button to lock the door, I see that a flat tab, on the mechanism, bumps into an arched portion.
The tab is supposed to go over that arched piece to allow it to lock (therefore it wont lock).
The drivers door had that problem but managed to fix itself???
I can't get the passenger door to lock.

If I disconnect the rod from the door handle, it will allow the tab to move to the lock position.

IS THERE AN ADJUSTMENT THAT WILL INCREASE THE SPACE FOR THAT ROD?
I don't think I want to BEND THE ROD TO MAKE IT SHORTER??

Thank you,
John

If they are repro door handles take the mechanism from your originals and put it on the new ones. Repros are not correct.

I switched the mechanism back and forth a few times.
You are right, the original mechanism is just slightly better to the point that I got it to work.
Thank You,
John
