I am thinking about swapping over to a FI system from my current set up.

http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,124503.0.html

I have a stock tank and i'm thinking about going with a tank/pump set up as well as having the FI control the timing.
I have looked at quite a few threads on here but so many choices lol

any thoughts? I was looking at Fi-Tech but I am around the 600HP range and want timing control.

Thanks!!

I am still carbed but I do have the Tanks inc set up with a return, still saving for the EFI, If you are going TBI EFI, go with the Holley Super Sniper with their ignition set up.with TBI you will need a single plane intake, port injection is better, but more costly.

My regular Sniper kit is supposedly good for 650hp, should be juuuust good enough for you. It will do timing control. I have their re-branded tanks inc set up, as well as just finished converting to dual electric fans, and have the Sniper controlling those as well.

I have some info in my build thread. The kit CDR mentioned above is capable of much more power, as well as forced induction. The quarter-second-flick-of-the-key start ups never get old.

Nice engine!  I'm not too up on the current offerings, but I have been happy with the FiTech power adder 1200.  I know neither of the 440s I have will come near that, I'd be happy with half that actually.  The only reason I went with the "1200 HP" version was because it had all the options I wanted (mainly timing control, work with some type of boost, some data logging) and the horsepower brackets for these TBI setups seem odd.  I.E. the next step down was the power adder 600HP and my first 440 I put the FiTech on should have been supposedly 550HP+ naturally aspirated.  Not much room for growth.  Next step up was the 800HP offering which would have been perfect except it had no timing control and no boost.  And back then the Holley offerings were pretty limited at the time I was looking for fuel injection.

Even right now on a smog 440 with a dual plane intake it works pretty good.  14,000+ miles on two fairly different 440s and I still haven't used the timing control :P or really tuned/made use of all the features.

Right now you are already close to 600HP, and a cam and intake swap would probably put you close to 650, some head work and you'd be over that?  :shruggy:  By now FiTech or Holley must make a setup that is good to 700HP or so with timing, data logging and other features right?  The Edelbrock MPEFI seems like a great option, but I forget the "HP rating" on it

wow, thanks for the great information everyone!

cdr, is this the tank you are referring to?
http://www.tanksinc.com/index.cfm/page/ptype=product/product_id=484/category_id=146/mode=prod/prd484.htm

Are you running this because of the extra flow or other reasons? One of the reasons I want to go EFI is due to the heat soak i experience and I am not running a return line.

I have been messing with aftermarket EFI since the late 80's & prefer EFI over a carb, right now its a money thing. My fuel pump rod wore down & knowing I would get EFI at some point & wanting to drive my car in the Southeast Texas heat I went with the Tank that is in Your link, & set it up with a return, so now when I do go EFI the fuel system is ready to go, just change the pressure regulator to a high pressure one.

also , were there any mods you needed to do to the tank ?

Yes it is an adjustable low pressure bypass regulator 2-9lbs if IIRC

I installed a Sniper setup with the Holley (tanksinc) fuel tank and in-tank pump.  The dyno numbers are 440 hp and 530 tq at the wheels, which puts me at the edge of its capabilities. After a year, it is running excellent! Instant starts and throttle response is amazing.  The one thing I've learned is if I'm around 1/4 tank and punch it WOT it will cut out because the fuel is sloshing around too much.  There is a soak mat that you can buy to help with that, or just keep it above 1/4 tank for launching.

I have a MSD pro billet sitting on the shelf that I plan to use.  Fitting an air cleaner of any size was/is one of the few issues I had with the Fi Tech.  So right now I'm using a cheapy Mr. Gasket air cleaner with an element that is too short IMHO.  The drop base I was using (K&N) with a Holley carb would not fit over the fuel fittings, even with the 90º fittings I'm using.  If you have the drop base sorted out with an Edelbrick carb, maybe you won't have any problems here.  I think the K&N drop base would need cutting and welding to fit around the more squarish throttle body and the fittings especially

That is a common problem with the fuel fitting hitting the drop base.  A lot of people swap both of them (pressure and return) to Banjo style fittings so that there is no clearance issues.  I am running 45* AN fittings and a edelbrock drop base cleaner, it works but I wish I had more clearance.   :Twocents:

Read through this thread.  It is a really awesome write up that covers the Tanks inc. tank install and running high pressure lines.
http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,131567.0.html

I am running FiTech 600hp version on my 440.  It starts great and performs just like it should.  I am running Timing control through this Firecore Distributor.  https://www.manciniracing.com/firradi.html    I bought it from Firefighter (Ron).  The timing control works great.  My only complaint it that the timing table on the FiTech is VERY basic.  It doesn't have very many options to plug it the timing you want at various RPM and throttle positions.  You put in several different scenario timing targets and hope that it puts it all together in a good curve.  From my experience so far it does a good job of that curve being where it needs to be.  But overall I am very happy with EFI.  It performs great and I love being able to lean into the car and fire it up, turn the A/C on and walk away while it cools down inside.   :yesnod:  It fires up within 2-3 seconds every time, sometimes in 1 second or less.

As for ways of running high pressure fuel other than a in-tank pump, don't try anything other than running a pump in the tank with a return.  (speaking from experience)

If I was starting from scratch, I would probably buy the port style EFI like these:
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/edl-359200/overview/make/dodge
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/edl-359100/overview/make/dodge
I would actually consider selling my FiTech and RPM intake manifold to swap to this setup in the future, I feel like it might be worth the extra money.     :Twocents:    :shruggy:

Would I need to swap out my duel plane performer rpm for fi-tech? I am not sure what type of performance hit i would take going with single plane and holley super sniper? I also use the firecore RTR, was it an easy hook up?

I am running the dual plane RPM with my FiTech and it seems to be fine, but as a general rule it is better to run single plane with EFI.  The Firecore distributor that I posted the link to above was literally just plug and play with my FiTech.  It even had the correct connector to plug in.  You do have to "lock out" all mechanical advance so that the EFI is the only thing controlling advance.  There are some decent videos on youtube about setting up timing control.  Most people use MSD.  If you go with the Holley setup then you might want to buy their distributor to keep things simple.   :shruggy:    Or if you go with the direct port setup, some of them come with the distributor like this kit :   https://www.summitracing.com/parts/edl-359100/overview/make/dodge

May be apples to oranges, but I have a Holley Sniper 14" drop base that may work on the FItech??

It is designed to provide clearance around the fuel fittings of a Sniper, though the 13" drop base I bought from Mancini still works, and allows me to keep the Mopar air cleaner and pie tin....

I like the idea of running one of the XT style intakes.  I have no room under the hood, my air cleaner is rubbing my hood currently.  I may want a small shot of nitrous in the future but I have no room to add the spacer.    :eek2:   :smilielol:    I will be anxiously awaiting your feedback on the port injection setup Dino.   :2thumbs:

I'm in Alaska, so we aren't really the US up here  ;)

That looks like it would be perfect for either Fitech or Holley, with or without banjo fittings.  Thanks for the offer/heads up!  I wish they came out with that sooner as now I'm probably going to try and cook up some type of cold air setup using this tho:

I think the hardest part will be making it not look cheap or cheesy.  If not, that Holley base is perfect

I'm using Fitech on a dual plane, with a 1/2"? open spacer.  Drives good all the time, except there is some initial hesitation/weirdness @ wot.  I haven't made any attempt to tune it out and it could be due to any number of causes, including but not limited to ignition timing.  Not a big deal for me I just kinda drive around that.  Roll on the throttle instead of stomping on it
