71 Charger R/T. Looking around reproduction seat belts for this car provide two sets for the rear seat. In looking around the web for examples I came across one that had three sets, one extra set for anyone sitting in the middle. Was that middle set added by someone? Was two sets in the rear seat the standard?

al cars got 3, being the middle one manually adjusted, and outers with retractors

Ok, I finally got an answer and I can get the rear seat middle set for a few dollars more.

But where am I going wrong here, I only see 2 retractors for the front seats and not the back..

I THINK 71s could be diff on outers being fixed instead retractors and the female buckle being manually adjustable. Maybe 72 was the first year for retracted system on males just like fronts. What is definitelly wrong is the missed center rear setup.

I have seen interior rear quarter panels without the cutouts for the retractors... being maybe just 71.

Or maybe the retractor on rear was a middle 71 year change.

this is a doubt just floated on detailing better the pic you posted

even this is a repro piece pic, works as reference. I have seen earlier panels like this:

and then laters with this cut out:

where I think the change could be related to the retractor. When this change happened ? dunno... mid 71 year or 72 ?

so, maybe cars with the quarter panels without the cut out didn't get retractors for rears.

with this change the female buckle belt was allways fixed on cars with retractors ( included center, being male adjustable ), and male was fixed female adjustable on cars without retractors.

this is a new analize and learn for me today.

72... soft arm pad with retractor cut out
73... molded hard plastic section arm pad with retractor cut out
74... molded hard plastic section arm pad with retractor cut out and front shoulder belt retractor cover.

Interesting! I just checked my panels and no cut outs, so its a fixed belt and no retractor. I will get the middle set for back seat. Thanks for the good info!

Wolfe440

Also had a question regarding the front. I have a buddy seat between the buckets, is there meant to be belts for that seat?

Nacho-RT74

It should! It's a seat like it was front bench!

There you can see the male for the middle and the female buckle long belt. Just not visible the second female on driver side for lap or shoulder driver belt. Maybe hidden around.

Searching buddy seat car pics!

Those are details never had paid attention before! That's why we learnt something new today!

71_Charger_R/T

Once again, Nacho is correct! '71 had the stationary, non-retractible outer belts and there is also a center set as stated.  :2thumbs:

Wolfe440

Very Good! Thank you for clarifying all this! Wolf
