Had a buddy send me this picture yesterday
He came across this in his pile of parts sitting around

Got me to thinking what car would have had this on it from factory and what fender tag code would indicate it should be there ?

Unless you steer your car no oil would move in this pipe cooler ?

I think the cooler was installed on any 440 car with a gear ratio of 3.54/3.55 or lower, and the lift off hood cars.
As far as fender code, idk

The pump is always moving fluid, so it would be circulating it through the cooler at all times.

it appears to be a cooler for a Federal power steering pump

correct for a 340 ('70-'71) or HEMI ('69-'71) car with an axle package (& power steering)

How long was that one stored underground? No fluid will pass through the baked in dirt.
Police cars used them. That is where I got mine.

Typically found on cars with power steering & an axle ratio of 3.54 or numerically higher no matter what engine size.

HD fleet cars also regardless of differential ratio.

3.54 rear ends and higher ratios

Wonder why because those motors usually ran at higher rpms to get anywhere so the steering pump oil ran hotter and needed it ?
