I tried search, and also looked through Gene's thread but I can't seem to find the answer. Were the scoops painted on the underside or just oversprayed or ? Were they primed?

Paint on top only they were on car .Maybe overspray

If they were painted on the car wouldn't that also mean the tops of the fenders underneath them would also have gone unpainted except for overspray? Maybe they were painted just sitting on a table or similar that they just got painted on top.

DAY CLONA

They were painted off the car, the majority that is, can't speak for every car as there was a learning curve for Creative Industries, plus time constants so variations will exist, no paint on the undersides just overspray

Your check list seems to contradict this statement, and Daytona Clone seems to be right.  Marker lenses going in after paint but before scoops go on, so it would seem the scoops where painted separately.  Unless I am reading your partial check list wrong.

So by the check list they are added to car after final paint, which implies painted off car right?

BS27ROB

Painting off the car would seem to be the common sense way to have done it and how to do it now, but it also seems the list can't be taken as an errorless sequential assembly order, as the screens certainly wouldn't have been installed at that time (after final paint).

I have attached a bottom side picture of one of my original Daytona fender scoops.
It appears that there is NO primer and NO paint on the bottom side.
There is a small amount of over spray at the back opening.
The area under scoop on the fender was painted body color.

Thanks for the pic John, I was trying to locate a photo I had of an original, but probably lost in a computer crash? your pic/text agrees with my earlier statement... IMHO that Creative Industries assembly "list" has always been suspect with me as to it's authenticity

but while on the subject of fender scoops, the 2 original sets I had of Superbird scoops, the undersides were in primer with color overspray, again I'm sure variations exist as these cars were hastily built, and off line from regular production

List is authentic...

What actually happened sequentially at Creative is another thing!!
The cars were to be updated FAST. In and out the door for homologation purposes.
Yes they were sloppy and we all know why!

Only built to get the race cars on the track by Talladega time.

Imagine if you have 2 hours to do a 3 hour task.
ok, now do it in one....
I've never owned anything but a MoPar. Can you say that?
