I am replacing the upper shifter boot on my '70 Charger.  Car is a 4-speed with console.  What is the best way to work the boot over the shifter handle?  I've removed the grip parts but not the upper lense cap section, as I'm not sure how that is attached.  It looks like the boot would be severely stretched if I try and work it over the lense cap?  Any help would be appreciated.

I took my handle out. Lube with WD40 slide it on reinstall. It will not fit over the top.
