Good deal....I modified the original  I would hope for 86k a potential buyer would do their homework!

I usually don't pick at these "cars for sale" but this one is so obvious.  Add says 4 speed but it sure looks like an auto floor shift to me.

Strange that they would take the RT VIN and then make a General Lee from it.  Any old VIN would seem to do the trick for a General Lee.   Not saying this is a rebody or not, just a waste of an RT car especially if that much work was involved as an XP would be seemingly just as valuable, whatever this car may be worth.

I give the guy props for bringing another charger back from the dead, but I have to question why do all that just to make another General clone? Any old charger would have worked for that.

I didn't realize that you could do that? Are you an administrator on this site? Hence the stars below your your name?

Just asking to better know this forum community.

Thanks

Do you really think that's the original unibody under that R/T VIN?  Come on.  That's gotta be a re-body.

Yeah, there are some guys in the hobby who would actually fix that trashed original unibody.  But they are not the ones who would slap it together as a crummy overpriced GL clone when they were done.

This is not an $86,000 car:

Nice door panels. Are those from Year One?

Not sure.  However, the upper pad appears to be from "Wrong Year".

I emailed the dealership and said, "Hello, what metal work has been all done to the car?". They just replied....

"The current owner has owned the vehicle for 10+ years and aside from adding the grille guard and roll cage, the only metal work that has been done was some custom welding on the radiator assembly and a custom fabricated front core support to allow for better component clearance. "

Based on the fact there is a pic w/ the VIN loose, not riveted to the dash frame, I'd say theres a LOT to be suspicious about.  :Twocents:

Ad says "four-speed automatic". I assume they did one of the popular conversions, A518... Keisler... etc.  Or maybe it is a mistake in the listing and it is still a 3 speed auto.  :shruggy:

all true :iagree:  what other guys say  :yesnod:

if &  big IF this was the original body that has been repaired , the crap panel alignment , body work , paint work that's been done, &   use of some parts etc , calls into question the quality of the welding / metal work .   i'm sure any body guy who would of taken on a re construction of a charger like that/ this , would not have done a shit amateur   job of all the other aspects of the work required when rebuilding a old car from the ground up ie a bare shell rebuild   :shruggy:  or at least not asking good money for it, maybe the owner done it to please him self & had no intentions of selling but for one reason or another  its now for sell at a dealer who knows ...
i'm going with, its a poorly done rebody , for  maximum  profit ,  just hope some serious DOH fan does not get taken in buy this car , hope anyone looking to buy this checks in to this site first !

RUN from this car IMO

All I have to see is a black engine bay and I know the rest isn't going to be any better than a hack job.

Mike DC

Not necessarily true for a GL replica.  The engine bay was black on TV.  The Duke boys started with a black Charger in the fictional story.

Still....
It seems like a cheap excuse to avoid painting the car right.

Mike DC

If you're a Dukes nut then an orange engine bay doesn't look right.

Seven seasons of TV episodes.  Two reunion specials.  A big theater remake (with a 528 Hemi).  The engine bay was always black.  Never orange.

Yeah, granted, the factory didn't do them that way.  But Mopar didn't build Chargers in a Corvette orange color with AR Vector wheels and a pushbar on the front.  The GL was never a stock car.

I gave the General Lee a pass because it was a TV character. TV show cars are not accurate representations of the real thing anyway.

I emailed back, included the 2011 auction pictures and said,

"Hello Heather,

Thank you for the response. In your ad, you stated this car holds VIN # XS29L9G115162. You mentioned the current owner has owned the vehicle for 10+ years and no metal work has been done to the car. However, XS29L9G115162 was on eBay in 2011 in the below shape (see attached pictures). I'm just curious as to your thoughts on this?"

So, I've spoken to them more. It sounds like it's a consignment vehicle and they don't know much about it. They responded to my question with this.....

"The VIN for this vehicle is XS29L9C115162. When this vehicle was entered into our system there must have been an error making the C a G."

So I responded with....

"Do you have a picture of the VIN or fender tag (on the inner fender: driver side engine bay) by chance? I've never seen a '69 Charger with a C in that position on the VIN. That position is for the assembly plant. I've only ever seen G or B for the two different assembly plants. C would be a plant that they never built Chargers at. That being said, Dodge did some weird stuff so never say never."

They just replied and sent me a picture of the VIN tag.....

"Please see attached VIN plate. The VIN was entered correctly as XS29L9G115162. This is a consignment vehicle so I have reached out to the owner to clarify a few things based off the information sheet we received on intake. Please let me know if you have any further questions and I will get back to you with as much information as possible as soon as I get a response back.

Enlarged the pic to see it a bit clearer....pretty cool that it looks like the tag numbers were touched up a bit except the "5"
