All I have to see is a black engine bay and I know the rest isn't going to be any better than a hack job.

Not necessarily true for a GL replica.  The engine bay was black on TV.  The Duke boys started with a black Charger in the fictional story.

Kinda halfazz GL / resto (?)     I wouldn't doubt it's a 318 car underneath it all.    Roll Eyes     Love the crappy spray can interior dye job.

It's overpriced at half that price  Twocents

Still....
It seems like a cheap excuse to avoid painting the car right.

If you're a Dukes nut then an orange engine bay doesn't look right.

Seven seasons of TV episodes.  Two reunion specials.  A big theater remake (with a 528 Hemi).  The engine bay was always black.  Never orange.

Yeah, granted, the factory didn't do them that way.  But Mopar didn't build Chargers in a Corvette orange color with AR Vector wheels and a pushbar on the front.  The GL was never a stock car.

I added the VIN to the thread title, hopefully any potential buyers know to Google the VIN to see if anything comes up.

I googled it, this thread didn't come up unfortunately

I gave the General Lee a pass because it was a TV character. TV show cars are not accurate representations of the real thing anyway.

I emailed the dealership and said, "Hello, what metal work has been all done to the car?". They just replied....

"The current owner has owned the vehicle for 10+ years and aside from adding the grille guard and roll cage, the only metal work that has been done was some custom welding on the radiator assembly and a custom fabricated front core support to allow for better component clearance. "

I hope you emailed the link to this thread straight back to them!!! lol

I emailed back, included the 2011 auction pictures and said,

"Hello Heather,

Thank you for the response. In your ad, you stated this car holds VIN # XS29L9G115162. You mentioned the current owner has owned the vehicle for 10+ years and no metal work has been done to the car. However, XS29L9G115162 was on eBay in 2011 in the below shape (see attached pictures). I'm just curious as to your thoughts on this?"

So, I've spoken to them more. It sounds like it's a consignment vehicle and they don't know much about it. They responded to my question with this.....

"The VIN for this vehicle is XS29L9C115162. When this vehicle was entered into our system there must have been an error making the C a G."

So I responded with....

"Do you have a picture of the VIN or fender tag (on the inner fender: driver side engine bay) by chance? I've never seen a '69 Charger with a C in that position on the VIN. That position is for the assembly plant. I've only ever seen G or B for the two different assembly plants. C would be a plant that they never built Chargers at. That being said, Dodge did some weird stuff so never say never."

They just replied and sent me a picture of the VIN tag.....

"Please see attached VIN plate. The VIN was entered correctly as XS29L9G115162. This is a consignment vehicle so I have reached out to the owner to clarify a few things based off the information sheet we received on intake. Please let me know if you have any further questions and I will get back to you with as much information as possible as soon as I get a response back.

Good deal Cody.   We'll see the integrity of this dealer now....not holding my breath....next question should be a pic of the radiator support stamping.....

Enlarged the pic to see it a bit clearer....pretty cool that it looks like the tag numbers were touched up a bit except the "5"

Just curious if they left the old body numbers on the donor or if they swapped the r/t ones on it.

Maybe even have a re-pop Fender Tag and B-Sheet as well ?

Won't be long now until the entire car can be faked properly ? You know.... even the Body Stampings ?
and then....
we can ALL have 3X Black '69 R/T SE 4 Spd Track Pack Cars, and they can ALL be documented originals right ?

The tan sprayed dash was found on the original filmed cars (every single one I could not affirm to).
