I await to be corrected

thats what i remember too,
the big willie daytona was acid dipped one too many times for lightness and started bending and was junked out with the parts stripped off?
i Deffo remember him talking about his wife rolling her daytona in a street race.
the rumor was he gave that shell to a local farmer.

It is true that the car was dipped.   But the real problem was that Willie didn't pay the bill.

Ghoste

But is that shell the car or not?  Any photos out there of the fender tag or that buildsheet?

below is posted a picture of XX29J9B356523, it is the only picture in this thread of something that left Creative Industries as a HEMI Daytona (or part of)

I did recall seeing the King buildsheet for sale in my wingcar club newsletter. For a few hundred
seller was Randal mouser Arkansas
If the process of acid dipping requires a stripped shell. Then maybe dash fender tag and driveline maybe surrived?

that's what I was kind of thinking , maybe the dash frame has been found in a barn / old junk yard /  old timers mopar collections been cleared out etc   etc & now someone is building a Daytona from just a dash frame. i'm very sceptical  with anything I see or read on the internet  especially FB.

:shruggy:.  story I heard / read  the king Daytona was acid dipped on two separate occasions , & it was the second time it fell to bits & or the acid was not neutralised properly, now i'm not 100% i'm remembering it right , I could easily be getting confused with something else, easily done trying to recount stories from years ago etc . IMO I would of thought by acid dipping , the car is stripped to a empty body shell , & the parts of metal they do not want reduced in thickness ie suspension mountings are covered in something not sure what it is .. maybe a liquid latex or grease or similar , I await to be corrected , i'm just trying to remember things I've read over the years. the key process is the neutralising the acid. I also remember reading & seeing a few pictures the king Daytona was extensively lightened & don't think there was a  stock dash frame in it for vary long ! if that is the case ! could explain the dash frame with vin has turn up after all these years , highly unlikely  but you never know . the story I heard about the queen Daytona was that it was in a bad wreck & destroyed , does that mean nothing was taken off by Big willie at the time or when the remains when to the junk yard ? who actually knows the truth ! did a Big willie fan at the time manage to get hold of a Vin plate as a souvenir , or even Big willie him self keep the vin plate. who knows what went on back then, guessing 1970 -74 time frame, someone like me that was born in 1971  seems a life time way & I can only just remember a couple of things from 74/ 75 time & that seems a world away now.  if only the internet digital cameras youtube smart phones were around back then eh &  people knew what they would become today &  how crazed some charger mopar aero fans are in finding out all  there is to know about the history on each of these cars,  sadly doubt there is hardly if anybody left who was actually there at the time to see what happened to both Daytonas! & if they did, would not of been much interest ! back then they were just cars  wrecked this one no biggie  buy another tomorrow etc . all this stuff I've just typed! to BE TAKEN WITH A GRAIN OF SALT  its just me trying to remember stuff ive read about / heard & picture ive seen over the years & could well be getting mixed up with other mopar cars etc  easily done when your a mopar nut & been reading watching looking interested in these cars since the late 70s  :P.

those two FB pictures are annoying  cliff hanger type  deals with no follow up info ,   bit like that R4 Daytona &  cat picture in another thread  :flame:

i'm not on FB so I cant go look up see who posted them & what is their integrity in the mopar world ?,  any one know the Guy / people ?
would be awesome if this is the Daytona !   i'm going with FAKE, think even the picture of part of the dash with vin tag is photo shopped / & or a false one made up !  hope i'm wrong !  if the guy whos car this is reads this !  come on & join  this site & tell us & share  the story we would all love to hear / see it  ! until then  sorry man  i'm going with

This newly found "King Daytona" is tied to one of the longest running threads on DC.com.  In fact, it is sitting in plain sight on PAGE 1 (!!!!!!!!) of the Charger board.    No one seems to have made the connection.

We all want to believe in  Santa Claus.

I had a fellow from Arkansas call right before Xmas last year.   Something about a Hemi Daytona a guy named Chris wants to sell him.   I told him "Send me the numbers".     He sends me Big Willie's King Daytona.      I tell him the car doesn't exist.     He sends me pics of a body shell with stock wheel tubs and a dash with an aged VIN plate (fake).     I send him over to another old timer who confirms to him the car is not real.     So that's where I thought it ends.

Saturday, I get a call from the same guy in Arkansas.   Right back to where we started in December.   He's still talking to Chris.   He still wants to believe.    I told him to walk away.   I don't think he will listen.

To follow up, the "King" "project was eventually traded off to a different person who was advised by a friend (not me) to pass on the deal.   He did not listen and traded several real deal Mopars for the project.    Que sera, sera.

70 sublime

Say that red Daytona picture in first part of this thread in the condition that is shown turns out to be Big Willie's car ( not saying it is)

How much does it add to the value of the car the way it is sitting vs just a project Daytona ??
next project 70 Charger FJ5 green

chargervert

I remember seeing photos of an F6 green 69 Charger that Hough was selling. In the background of the photos of the green Charger, was a red Daytona project car. People who commented on the thread relayed that the history of the green car was questionable as well. The seller is well known for scamming Mopar people.
