Painting underside of hood.

I have seen a lot of old cars with the underside of the hood painted flat black and I like the look. Mine is currently white but looks ratty from age. Are there any issues with heat if painted black? I'd like to hear your thoughts.

I would do it if you will like it.  It is your car and not something that cannot be undone later. 

You may get someone sometime in the future telling you it should be white, but you already know that and are doing it because you have a preference.
Who in their right mind would say

"The science should not stand in the way of this."? 

Science is just observation and hypothesis.  Policy stands in the way.........

Or maybe it protects us. 

I suppose it depends on the specific case.....

Darker color = less light getting bounced into the engine bay = harder to see in the engine bay.
